Cllr Paul McGlone Labour Ferndale Ward

McGlone was at the reviews of the House of Bottles' licence. He seemed hopelessly out of touch. His most penetrating question to Tony was "what is the ethos of your shop?" I wanted to throttle him. If has a brain he keeps it well hidden. Maybe he has one but just gets nervous when facing the public. He seemed very uncomfortable

This is a laughably timid thread. Somebody say something controversial about the Councillor please.

Sorry, but he is really very dull.

Unlike some members of the current administration, he's not an incompetent, but he just has a much higher impression of his own abilities than most people appear to share.

And I promise to kill him if he calls another proposed new building "iconic" just because it is big, tall and shiny, however crap the architecture.

Pretty much what lang rabbie said. He struck me as a bit out of his depth. Plus five minutes in his company feels like an awful lot longer. He could bore for Britain. Or Australia. Maybe that's why he's here, by popular demand from 'The Lucky Country'...lucky he's not there any more. Not so lucky for Lambeth. Sorry cllr, but you did ask.

Yes but i dont knw if that is something to criticise just him with. THe H of B saga made a lot of Cllrs clam up as i dont think they wanted to be seen questioning police actions. Dont forget that even if not in the Cabinet they have "party line" (even if unwritten) to follow. One of which is imo slavish support of police.

In my experience Cllrs are often interested in there local areas and supprtive of local people.

If they only werent in Labour party. All this "Third way" "what works" crap. Im having to deal with it at the moment.

Also imo if certain Cllrs seem out of touch it maybe be a strucutural. The Labour party is no longer a grass roots organisation with a large membership. Its losts its core vote and will lose next election.

In my (recent experience) this means that certain types of people can have a large influence. As they are considered to be the type of person the Labour party whats to associate itself with. On a national level this would be the Fred Goodwins and Alan Sugars of this world. This seeps down to Council level.
