Climate Change protest March

Partly because its not "theirs" and partly because of the personalities involved. A few people have been rubbed up the wrong way, etc etc.

A bit sad for a march that deals with such a massive threat, but I guess thats the way that humans work. They're running this thing on pennies, as far as I can tell.

I've been wanting to go on this for months. But...bit of a bust up with my friend and i'm not sure if i really want to go on my own.

Its better to go to demo's or actions with people you know and trust.

As a general rule, anyway.

You're in Devon, IIRC, and coaches are leaving Bretonside Bus Station (in Plymouth) at 7am to get up to London and back.

Won't be going on this one as I have business down here in Plymouth.

Good luck to all who are going though.

What's IIRC? Just talked to my friend, all is well and we're going. :)
Hope i'm not going to be the only one dressed in green. I've got my body paint ready :o But alas no banner.

IIRC= If I Remember Correctly.

And don't worry about not having a banner.

Within seconds of your being seen to be bannerless, you will be deluged with a placard, one end of a banner to carry and a copy of your super soaraway Socialist Worker.

Won't that be nice...?

Its going to be weird ,seeing the SWP on a climate change/environemental protest, i hope they don't destroy the UK ECO-movement like they did the ESF and other social movements.

btw, its unlikely to get much coverage with George Best's funeral happening today

What a thoroughly draining and depresssing event this was. I had to bail out early 'cos I just couldn't stand the futility of it.

couldn't agree more, i saw you as it goes, but was too depressed to speak to anyone, have written a report here

me and my friend went to a pasta place for lunch instead of doing the last stint. My GOD that was amasing pasta. It was like it was melting in my mouth...the sama reisitance people where so good. It was my first protest (ever) so it wasnt really old hat to me allthough i agree it did all seem abit futile. We even got into an arguement with a taxi driver...

I did have the pleasure of seeing a toff come back to his newly anti-4X4 lefleted car. He and his chavvy glf looked really annoyed. he just looked like a spolit brat and i think he thought we'd done it (i wish) since we stoppd to laugh.

Meh. I just dont think anyone should give up. If anything there needs to be way more demos and...things. Just, more music. lots more!

While i'm no fan of A to B marches, why does everything have to be 'joyous and 'exciting?' not every demo, etc, can be a RTS or a explosion of carnival and why should it?

I agree, it's not for every demo but it obviously does something for "morale". 'Specially in the pouring rain. and bands people together as well as sparking interest with the public...

Sitting somewhere between Christians and Buddhists in terms of self-righteousness, this woolly pack of oh so worthy Ned Flanders wannabes were as silent and grey as the ever darkening clouds

:D

why didn't you ring the bell at those supreme council offices and try to gain admittance?

I'm not sure that protesting over a phenomenon measured in decades if not centuries is ever going to get the sort of responses you got in recent times over, say, the Iraq war. It's also kind of hard to know what the protest is about; the fact that our climate changes? The contribution of global capitalism? What exactly is being protested? I think it's always going to seem a but futile when such a massive and complex issue is being generically protested against.

The fact that governments and industry are hardly doing anything to prevent (or ameliorate) climate change, and acting like nothing is wrong.
