Climate Camp 2008 News Thread

Climate Camp - The Big Day
Right, apologies for not having posted yesterday, but I was in meetings all afternoon and internet access was restricted. Damn solar power troubles.

The day before yesterday was pretty quiet as these events go. Little to report except that plod are now stopping and searching folk as they enter and leave the site and legal observers are now being blocked from doing their work under threat of arrest if they persist.

Yesterday I was stopped and searched while leaving the camp, stopped and searched twice on my way back in and patted down as well and I'm not the only one either. The policing has been the most restrictive and repressive I've ever seen, and I've seen a great deal. We spent much of yesterday plotting and planning various things for today and I was in meetings all afternoon. Can't say too much as I don't know too much, and I don't ask people involved in actions what's going on unless I actually need to know as it causes security issues.

The Great Rebel Raft Regatta has been banned by the Coast guard but had gone ahead anyway, so that's the seaborne side of things sorted, the march has just left and what the Green group are up to God only knows. I'll try and check back in again later with further reports if i can.

Toodle Pip for now.

Just a quick confirmation from site that the cops are criminal agents of tyranny. As individuals they may be human beings but the institutional lying and intimidation I have witnessed here have utterly disgusted me. I hope it will go to judicial review and some individual goons and their superiors can be sued into a black hole. I wont hold my breath though.

Inside we have friendship, love, and the most freedom in the UK. We have denied police their unreasonable demands through non violent resistance.

Outside there is petty tyranny, suspicion etc.

The contrast is staggering and represents the choice we face as a society. This has been a huge training exercise for police (and us). The police are training for a time when these methods may be applied to the more general population when the state can have one of their "emergencies" real or staged.

Will continue rant on my return to civvie street.

TG over and out.

tons of news coming in .. reports that people got in the power station and have been arrested, that banners have been dropped from pylons, that the rafts got people on the jetty etc .. i am so sick i am not there :( ( having had a bug of sorts :( ) but then it is probably for the best! :D

Having been back from the Climate Camp since late on Sunday night, I have to say that one of the nicest things about it (and this was mentioned by at least a half dozen other campers besides me) was the seeming absence of Trots trying to flog dogy papers of various sorts.

Especially the absence of fuckwitted Swappies who would no doubt have tried to 'organise' things according to their own ways.

I'll definitely be going to the next one and climate change will be my primary focus of activity from now on. I'll still do the anti-nuke stuff, but concentrate much more on the climate change side of things.

as usual it is all straw man ..

"For the billions in the world who live on less than one dollar per day, environmentalists’ demand to ‘reduce consumption’ and ‘halt economic growth’ must sound like a sick joke. "

99% of CCers would SUPPORT and increase in consumption for the vast maj of people ..

should i ever come across a spiked type (and they be about my size :D) i shall endeavour set about them :)

scum one, scum all.

No reference to that article in particular.

Fucking stroll on, so the Middle Class had more than one insight into working class life.. here is this once proud nation of people who had class pride, now the counter claims from those involved in the action named Climate Camp (http://indymedia.org.uk/en/ ) are in full fucking flow oh I know I keep plugging Ian Bone but do read what he said on this (http://ianbone.wordpress.com/2008/0...camp-who-leads-in-the-suppression-of-protest/), as King Arthur spoke at the camp, we can only hope that their contact with the working class taught them one thing about our life under their occupation and as crass said: your parents are your first oppressors, now we ask the children to go kill them, and yourselves, if you can not join us in making yourselves history then we are more than willing to lend a helping hand..

Our next move in keeping the Debate on Climate open, is more email and conversations, public meetings anyone? We can not promise the world, but we will aim to keep open this very debate and see where it can lead, I have no problem in working with my enemy, and the enemies of my earth, our mother.

Sometimes a compromise can lead us to good things, there has been joint actions over coal, a group of people gathered at a community centre in Barnsley, and when the dreadlocked hippies arrived to come and smash up dole hill open cast site on earth day October 31s t 1997, we were only going to play football (honest) but as it happened our walk with Anne Scargill (wife of arthur) and other former and current active members of the NUM lead to some serious action, the place was totalled in the space of a couple of hours, then when over we gathered and marched off, and there it should have been, but sometimes we all get a little too excited at times and the office occupation was crass, here is to Noel (now dead) who we hope the yoghurt was good and it was in hindsight good to be arrested for its theft .

Following over 36 hours in a police cell, court cases where the Middle Class refused the unity we had seen at Dole Hill, lessons were learned.

Now a thought for next years action, think of your location, think of your words and the hype (over 400 people from across england) came to dole hill, from just one flyer, word of mouth and a rented mobile (bill still owing) and we ensured the place was closed.
I have a good idea, Sheffield anyone, now lets take the power and make this land as ours, lets remember No M41 and claremount road, fuck the fluffy vs spikey debate, lets get militant and show the police and other enemies of our class we can organise, remembering 2009 will be 25 years on from The Great Strike of 1984, any one for another Orgreave, lessons from The Hit Squads of then into now, now fucking stroll on…

But there were no bloody papersellers and folk out recruiting or slagging each other off, and that was great.

I dread to think of what would have happened had the SWP CC called their drones to mobilise in numbers for this event, which was a pretty good one all told. Then again, the SWP CC don't seem to have any appetite for meaningful direct action. The likes of Martin Smith are more interested in beating up young lads.

Right, seeing as the earlier Climate Camp thread I started has become as much a debate about global warming as about the camp itself, I'd like to see this thread used for news and reports, blogs etc rather than as a debate thread.

Hopefully there's room on here for a "Thanks". :)

Thanks to all those involved and their efforts in fighting this development. The blogs, links etc have been balanced, interesting and informative to read. Well done all.

again, you're mistaken - you just don't know what ur looking at :D

BTW what is ut that everyone has aginst paper sellers? I always groan when trots turn up cos: they'll hijack a meeting/campaign/boeing for no reason other than to rant and if successful run it into the ground. Not cos they might offer me a paper. Trying to sell you a paper is completely inoffensive, and ffs you're at a politcal event so whats wrong with someone offering you a political tract? Don't want it? Don't buy it then. I have seen 'anarchists' actually cross the road to tell SWP members that they don't want to buy a copy of their paper!

Anyway, i hawked Freedom at the dinner ques at climate camp and sold out in half an hour, so anarchists are just as guilty - if somewhat more succesful.
