Clegg wins LibDem leadership...

Under our current FPTP system I think this is good news, because a right-of-centre Libdem party will take support from the Conservatives, whilst maybe those lefties who switched from Labour to Liberal in 2005 over the Iraq war might come back into the Labour 'fold'.

So it will be harder for the Conservatives to take back seats like Torbay, whilst Labour will have some hope of taking back places like Manchester Withington.

There is also an issue of how many Scots will be willing to stick with the LibDems now their leader is an ex public schoolboy from Buckinghamshire!

All this, of course, assumes a Labour Govt is still a lesser evil than the Tories. I think it is-if only just.

The best way to deal with this issue for Clegg - given that policy-wise there was little difference, is for Clegg to give Huhne a high profile post in an area where the Government is seen to be on the backfoot and let him run with it.

This is what Cameron has done with David Davis - certainly mediawise anyway. Whenever there is something that falls into Davis's policy area, Cameron takes a step back and lets Davis get on with it. Given that the Lib Dems have got several well-known names at a national level - including Huhne, Simon Hughes, Menzies Campbell, Charles Kennedy, Lembit Opik, Susan Kramer and John Thurso, he should get them round the table, agree what their policies are going to be - and lines of attack and then let them all loose, leaving himself to cover the issues that deal with Government as a whole.

Oh PR, you're the best!

Though I don't see Lembo's move to housing as a demotion as the Guardian sees it.

Will Clegg give Huhne a free run as Cameron's done with Davis?
