Cleaning up a pigsty

Although I think Feng Shui is a bit daft - I do reckon theres some truth in it. Clutter does stress you, you waste time looking for things, it does block your 'life state' doesn't it?

We had a big throw out in our study and reorganised everything. We have gone from sharing one desk, to having about twelve feel of desk space. It has affected my mood and my productivity for the better.

At least you can see the carpet now, that is always a good sign imo.

A lot of that mess looks like paper so what about getting some files?? Or just binning much of the (what looks like) random stuff??
A lot of it will end up binned, or at least filed away....

What is the purpleness over the back of the chair?
It's a batik dress I got at Glasto... ;)

How did I ever let it get in this state? Sigh ...

I love you,

I love you, I love you, I love you.

I always think that every other person in the world but me lives in a cream carpet paradise with several tactfully placed items of modern art.

Thank you for restoring my faith in human nature.

No, honest, the world is full of messy bastards :D It's just we never find out about each other, as our places are far too messy to invite people around :D

*glances around bedroom*

*feels guilty*

tbh I hoovered up here yesterday (not that you can tell) but it is still mess ahoy! here..

its why we all sit talking to each other via the PC :D

Wow that's quite impressive mess Vel :D

There's nothing like having a small person or two crawling around the floor to make you keep on top of cleaning (I used to be pretty lackadaisical about mess and dirt until little weepiper the elder got to the crawling-and-putting-everything-in-the-mouth stage) ...unless you've got PND I suppose which is what it sounds like the case was with the lady on How Clean Is Your House mentioned above.

So, there's your solution you need to sprog :)

Actually it only works until they hit about one and a half, then the balance swings the other way and they make more mess than you would have believed was possible :)

could be. Im wondering why were assuming the bloke ( also at home all day- they were on benefits of some kind) could not of picked up some mess, wiped a surface or put anything in a bin either

I agree :( I used to live in a house with 11 girls, 3 bathrooms- gross dirty cows most of them, I'd rather share with a bloke

*shudder* 11 girls in one house!

Once had to share with six others and only one proper bathroom...

.... it all ended in tears...

after 3 days of tidying,my house still looks messy :(
think i'll try again when the kids have grown up!

Have any of you ever got into a situation where your flat/house deteriorated so badly that you just didn't know where to start? Well, I feel a bit like that now ...!

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel.

I have a thin layer of paper work, where I tend to get bills and spam mail and then pile them up on the corner of something til they fall off, then think fuck it and leave them on the floor.

Its kinda like a filing system, anything recent is piled on top of a surface, anything going back 4 months is on the floor.

It has been like this, and worse, before and I have spasms every once in a while where i just can't stand it anymore and do a proper clean up, getting close to that again now.

I find it difficult to find the motivation, but then that is the story of my life, I find it difficult to find the motivation to get up in the morning.

I'm feeling remarkably good about my flat now.
The bloke has been cleaning/tidying so that our christmas presents can roam free (sort of robot guinea pigs, in theory they map the room so it seems to cruel to keep moving piles of junk).

We've spent a couple of hours today tidying up (time for a clean out after new years innit) - still a long way from perfect, but there now appears to be double the floor area there was yesterday :)

And now for my next task: to tidy up all the stuff piled on the sofa, so that I can actually use it ...

edit: that was easy :) alas though there's still a lot of way to go :( - But it's nice to have somewhere else to sit down now :)
