Classic Songs From The Shows

So you wanna be a boxer
In the golden ring
Can you punch like a south-bound freight train
Tell me just one thing

Can you move in a whirl like a humming bird's wing
If you need to (ooh thats fast!)
Can you bob, can you weave can you fake and deceive when you need to?

Well, you might as well quit
If you haven't got it

So you wanna be a boxer
Can you pass the test?
I can tell you've got it in you
I've trained the best

When you work and you sweat
And you bet that you train to a buzz-saw (Zing!)
Then you near lose your mind
When you find that your boy has a glass jaw

So you might as well quit
If you haven't got it.

Put him in the ring, Joe
Look at what you found
We can use the fun, Joe
Pushing him around

Well show him the ropes
And destroy his hopes

Put him in the ring, Joe
Give the guy a chance
Let him feel the sting, Joe
We can make him dance

We'll pulp him to bits
Then he'll call it quits for sure, Joe

So you wanna be a boxer
Wanna be the champ
There's a golden boy inside you
Not a punched-out tramp

If you listen and you learn
There's an honour you can earn and defend here
When you do see the crown
You're a king not a clown
A contender

But you might as well quit
If you haven't got it

Put him in the ring, Joe
Something new to punch
Let me have a swing, Joe
Then we'll go to lunch

We'll make it quite swift
Then he'll get the drift

Put him in the ring, Joe
Chicken a la carte
Let me have a wing, Joe
Tearing him apart
That chicken will crow

oh let me have him Joe

Wash your mouth out!!

I can't stand GREASE - however I do concede that may be more to do with the fact that a good proportion of my day is taken up with talking to people about it :( Again. And again. And again :(:(

'There are worse things I could do' is

But sorry, QofG, 'Send in the clowns' is a total stinker

*Puts on sailor suit*

New York, New York, a wonderful town
The Bronx is up, but the Battery's down
The people ride in a hole in the ground
New York, New Yooooooooooork, it's a wonderful tooooooooooown!

I did a stint as a rehearsal pianist for a local production of Guys and Dolls for six weeks. It might be the single gayest thing I've ever done.

And Annie too. I now hate all plucky orphans.

Maybe this time - Cabaret (actually, anything from Cabaret)

went to see Cabaret last night, and that was a rather ace one - tho it was only written for the film, and not the original stage show. As was Money.

the other songs cut from the fuilm were also pretty good, especially the oines with Fraulein Schneider & Herr Schultz.

West Side Story next, the best versions of which are Alice Coopers the Jets & Grand Finale, which isn't really a song I suppose.

No matter how hard I try I can't resist singing a harmony line to "The Deadwood Stage" (with such gusto that Mrs SFM looks quite worried at times)

yup, Wayne Sleep as the emcee, still a great dancer despite being sixty, not a bad singer either.
What did you think of Sally Bowles? Is it still the girl from the talent show?

I think Wayne sleep must have injured himself when I saw it because for the proper dancing bits they had a stand in.

The ending made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck

I saw that production in Bristol! I thought hew as surprisingly good, although maybe not a great singer, but the emcee doesn't have to be an amazing singer.

I really seriously cannot pick my favourite showtunes. I just can't.

anything by that oily fucker Lloyd Webber, or probably from the last 30 years, is made of fail

Bollocks. I agree most Lloyd Webber is absolute kaiser, (although Joseph is still a great great kids musical), but nothing from the past 30 years? There is loads!

It's a shame people aren't willing to embrace new musicals, Wicked, in particular is a really interesting and wonderful show.

her singing was great, decent dancing, pretty rubbish acting tho. Didn't have the ego the role demands.

Yup, the ending was very.....moving. No one applauded at all at the end, which is most unusual

The ending is really brave. It was brilliant.

Sally's voice made me shivery.

Yeah, I got a bit pissed off and then managed to just enjoy her singing.I just didn't believe her. Sally Bowles is really fucking damaged and that Sam is just a sweet girl. I don't think she's had enough life experience to pull off a part like that. The supporting cast were fab I thought.

Same here. There was no applause until the curtain call.
