"The CIA has been hiding and interrogating some of its most important al Qaeda captives at a Soviet-era compound in Eastern Europe, according to U.S. and foreign officials familiar with the arrangement.

The secret facility is part of a covert prison system set up by the CIA nearly four years ago that at various times has included sites in eight countries, including Thailand, Afghanistan and several democracies in Eastern Europe"

Just reading through this now; it is as grotesque as it is frightening that the US intelligence agency can just take (kidnap is a more accurate term given the trans-legal nature of this operation) foreign citizens and place them in hidden prisons (“black sites” as they call them) all over the world. No accountability or judicial process; you’re just gone and left to rot or be tortured somewhere…
