Christmas Craft Club - Sunday 16th December, afternoon/eve

Well, peeps have been talking about making gingery xmas biscuits to hang on your tree. I can provide ingredients for that, if anyone knows a recipe! :)

Also, we're thinking about doing german xmas biscuits if anyone has any good recipes!

Basically - bring ingredients for whatever you want to make (eg. mince pies, cake, whatever) - the oven will probably be on all afternoon :D

We are going to have a (vegetarian) cheese fondue, so that's basically bread and cheese. I just need to do a bit of research to find out what's the best cheese combo, cos I think it's a mixture of 2 or 3 different cheeses melted.

I'm gonna go to Lidl and get some gluhwein. If anyone fancies bringing any stollen, or any other Christmassy cakes or grub we can scoff, that would be fab
Excellent, thanks han! will suss some ingredients and will ask markus if his mum has some good biccie recipes :)
will bring cheese

spices...and wine

:D

Surely if we're going with a German theme, we should use German cheese for the fondue. Zora can teach us all to knit German style too. We could sing "O Tannenbaum" and "Stille Nacht"... we could all give each other balls of stripy sock wool... Shame Choc won't be there to up the Germanness quotient :(

I think the best idea is for us to just cook one thing......otherwise it'll be chaos as we only have a normal oven. ie. how about we do the Vanillekipferl biscuit that Zora is suggesting. When we had the bread day, han bought the ingredients and then everyone chipped in about £1.....that seemed to work really well. So maybe we could do that this time. What do you think? Zora, if you could get hold of the vanilla sugar that would be brilliant, and let us know the other ingredients and we will get them.

Then all people need to bring is stuff they want to eat and drink (we will provide fondue and gluewine). :)

It's basically German mulled wine. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, people!).

You can buy it in a bottle in Lidl - in fact, this VERY BOTTLE:

And it is bloody gorgeous when heated up in a pan and drunk piping hot!

I'm sure it will go down a treat with a cheesy fondue, too.

I reckon putting on some cheesy choons is an absolute must, really. ;)

Bring your fromage-tastic choonage, people!

Oh dear. Just deleted that. Don't want people to be concerned about our kitchen hygiene ;)

Should I bring some things to dip in the fondue?

Nice bread, new potatoes, erm - what else do you dip in fondue? :D

Now I'm probably MORE worried about what you deleted  :D

Looking forward to this. I'll bring my Bing Crosby christmas CD and any christmasy-goodness I can find. And maybe some anti-bacterial wipes ;) :D

your fingers? :o

Yeah my concern for hygiene doesn't last long when there is melted cheese involved. You'll have to keep my grubby paws away from it :D

Nigella had red cabbage, apple and other stuff.

That programme was ridiculous. Her "student food" was FONDUE! :D

Red cabbage... won't it all fall in off your fork?
Will pick up some apples though.

It was radicchio, I think.

Sourdough bread is good for dipping - I can get some of that from Blackbird Bakery.

You also need gherkins and small pickled onions to cut through the richness, imho.

Nigella had a good recipe for fondue the other day. She used emmenthal, gruyere, brie and camembert.

I might have some kirsch I can bring.

That looks perfect, Ms T. I reckon we'll have to double the quantities, at least....

Beeboo - don't worry - it was just a festival-wee related joke. Very poor taste on a cooking thread. ;) Our kitchen is very clean, honest!

Yay! Bing Crosby! :)

I have a 'Mum and Dad's Christmas Favourites' cd :D that I got down the market which is actually very good! Lots of 1950s stuff.

Oooh. Must get a tree this weekend.

I wish I still had my 1970's "rollerdisco christmas" record :( - you haven't lived until you've heard a disco version of Good King Wenslesas.

You're all made of wrong. Everyone knows that Johnny Mathis' Christmas Album is the only way to go .
