Christmas Craft Club - Sunday 16th December, afternoon/eve

I'm well up for this - please count me in. Big fondue fan and would love to make biscuits to hang on tree :).

I too am looking forward to Christmas. I just bought a lovely ultimate Christmas book from the National Trust (£4.99 bargain) - red with black velvet spine and gold glittery stars :o ...... and I have made mince meat and the Christmas puds. Should I bring some mince pies and a Christmas pud?

you've made mincemeat and christmas puds already? Good effort!

That gig in Cecil Sharp House looks interesting, I'm in the neck of the woods on the Sat morning so that could be a nice thing for the afternoon (also I spied the words "mulled wine and mince pies" in small type at the bottom ;) ) I don't know anything about any of the performers but they've used a nice font and that always wins favour with me.

Glad you can make it, Alien Nation :)

Yay!

Madzone - Cecil Sharp House sounds fab. I'm really looking forward to checking it out in December. Hey - if you're coming to the Xmas craft club, feel free to bring your ukelele and give us a tune! :D

Beeboo - if you want to get tix for that gig, go to www.myspace.com/theowlservice and scroll down to where the gig poster is and you can buy the ticket (for 5 quid) through Paypal. Jan and I are going, as is our friend Caro who is coming on the Norfolk walk...do join us! :)

Sharron Krauss is a chum of mine and you can check her music out here - http://www.sharronkraus.com/ - it's kind of dark twisted folk.

The Owl Service have got some tracks on their MySpace page too.

Thanks for the details Han - it looks like I've got alternative plans made for me that afternoon now which is a shame as it looks good.

I might have to visit family on the 16th as well  :(

Hey there han, this sounds like fun! will direct fff and enfant terrible to this posting - biscuits AND cheese - I'm in :) :) :)

They are my favourites, too! (*studiously ignores gaijingirl's dog turd comments*:D )

Btw, these three types of biscuits I posted about just happen to be our family favourites that my mum and I make every year - I didn't mean to hijack the baking decision making progress in any way. :o

I'll do mullered wine and although biscuits sound great I'll have had 2 nights runnning of Actionette stuff so may just lie on the floor and watch you all make them. And demand bowls are brought to me for cleaning.

I may be a bit witchetty tbh

they are called vanilla crescent in english :0

i will run a trial baking session soon to see if the recepie would be suitable for our craft club (although recepie reads like it is easy). does anyone know about vanilla sugar (vanillin) i never saw it here in england i think?

Well, peeps have been talking about making gingery xmas biscuits to hang on your tree. I can provide ingredients for that, if anyone knows a recipe! :)

Also, we're thinking about doing german xmas biscuits if anyone has any good recipes!

Basically - bring ingredients for whatever you want to make (eg. mince pies, cake, whatever) - the oven will probably be on all afternoon :D

We are going to have a (vegetarian) cheese fondue, so that's basically bread and cheese. I just need to do a bit of research to find out what's the best cheese combo, cos I think it's a mixture of 2 or 3 different cheeses melted.

I'm gonna go to Lidl and get some gluhwein. If anyone fancies bringing any stollen, or any other Christmassy cakes or grub we can scoff, that would be fab :)

Aww, Choc - you will be missed. Where in Germany are you going?

Oh no, I was thinking I could bring you and zora's jam along!

I am definitely in for this :) be really good to see you all, and I really want to learn to make the german xmas biscuits!

I'm right up for this. What could be more fun than making and eating festive food round at HanJanHaus? :)

Ah, the elusive jam. ;) (elusive because I've had the evil flu last time we tried) Would be great if you could bring mine, I want to give some away for christmas - if it's stood the test of time.

Re: those german x-mas biscuits - making three different types might be a bit overkill? The Vanillekipferl are my favourites by a long way (same as Choc's), so I'll bring ingredients for those (I even found some vanilla sugar in Tesco's - I used to get it either from Germany or the Turkish shops in Wood Green). I'll probably bring samples of the other types as I hope to have made some more by then (the Urban household here has already mowed through my first batches of Kipferl and Liebesgruebchen!) They are all based on pretty much the same principle, pastry-wise, and then just get rolled, moulded or cut with biscuit cutters into their respective shapes plus some finishing touches. I'll bring recipes for all of them, in case any one's interested. :)

I've been pondering this for quite some time now, and nope, I can't think of anything. :)

I'm looking forward to these... might have to break my new healthy eating for this one day ;)

Going to German christmas market in Birmingham on Saturday - is there anything I can look out for?
