Christmas abroad: Where?

Another vote for Paignton. You could get the National Express coach down there and breathe Oil of Ulay for five hours and then go for a nice walk along the beach to prepare you for the trip home. If you're lucky you might meet and old person there walking a dog or something.

Paignton has a great zoo, and a waterpark, and rock pools, and old people and you can get a bus to Torquay if that's not enough for you!

never been but i've heard cozumel is ok if you want to do some cheap partying but it'll probably be over run with drunken and ignorant americans

I don't mind drunken and ignorant Americans. The have their purposes. And my travelling buddy particularly likes ripping the piss out of them. :p

I know, the guest houses are brilliant too - the rooms don't stink and the landladies don't get horrified and make catty remarks to their husbands when you have three weetabix instead of two. So yes, it's brilliant.

Well, yeah, but it's like that In Morecombe too so what would you do?

Hell, what would Jesus do? Go to Paignton, that's what.

If you're after sun in December go South. Morocco and Egypt for starters.
I went to Morocco a couple of times over christmas. It's very nice, but it's not the right place if you want warmth. If you're getting direct sun in the daytime it's okay, but in the shade it was cool, at night it was really quite cold, and in the mountains at night it was fucking freezing. Just to warn you :)

I'm going near Paignton for Xmas. What's wrong with that like?

It's my 30th Xmas day! :D

Muslim countries don't really appeal. I do like a drink.

You can drink in these countries. I spent a well pampered week in Sharm El Sheik about 4-5 years back. There was def cocktails being brought to me on the beach inbetween massages and beautiful snorkling.

I'm not really in to intense heat, you know the sort that drains you without doing anything, and is too hot to sleep in. Reasonably sunny days and nice cool nights does it for me.

i went to kenya - the coastline near mombassa - place called tiwi beach for nye on year. very cheap beautiful sun. can go on safari for your second week if you want. not sure what it would be like for chrimbo itself though. i had christmas in goa one year, it was good but i missed my mum!!

Yeah Kenya would be good...I think there is a Island there called Lamu or something that gets good reviews. Could also look into the Gambia?

I got £436 to Kerala with Emirates. With the Xmas charter flights (Monarch?) even cheaper, if you leave it to the last minute. They'll be desperate for people this year I think..

That's sort of had to become our plan now, after flights shot up in price. Whereabouts do you go to learn about the charter flights?

Just been to Kovalam: hoteliers there are expecting a very lean season this year. All charter flights cancelled except for Thomas Cook, I gather...
:(

Kenya = ace. Mombasa (north or south) great for both Christmas and NYE but you have to enjoy a party vibe because everyone's at it. If you want to go to Lamu you have to fly - unless you're going on a romantic break I wouldn't bother cos it's a bit dry.
