From the few brief times I actually came in contact with him seemed to be one of the more integral top figures in the SWP, quite quiet stoic and thoughtful definitely sincere.
One of the first books I read in early teens was his on German Revolution.

He was the most approachable of them all. First time I met him we'd just picked him up at Dublin ferryport and he said "I remember you from my meeting at Marxism on the family and class society! You kept shaking your head at all my best points. Now then, do we have time on our way into town for me to convince you I was right..."
