AP: Benoit strangled wife, smothered son

By GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 28 minutes ago

ATLANTA - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.

Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects. The official who described the manner of death spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was to be released at a news conference later Tuesday.

Investigators believe Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife, 43-year-old Nancy, and son Daniel during the weekend and then himself Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three separate rooms of the house, off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.

Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return calls seeking comment. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.

don't reckon benoit will have been on roads to be honest.

far to many wrestlers fuck em selves up and end up killing themselves though. That business and wwe in paticular really need to look at the touring schudule they are asking of thier performers.

Jesus: that's some pretty bad roid rage.

i know hes from alberta. but tis what the press are saying as he has lived in atlanta for bare time.

Alot of the canadian wrestlers get announced as if they come from usa. christain cage is another one hes apparently from tampa these days and i think chris jericho was getting announced as hollywood. tis weird

dave

technically excellent wrestler. not much of a showoff like the rock et al, but in terms of ability, he was up there with the best.

ill never forget that flying headbutt off the top of the cage!

And the Harts, of course, are all from Alberta.

yeah but they always got announced as calagary alberta.

Theres actully a couple more harts about to come off the production line. Harry smith(son of british bulldog and one of the hart sisters) and natalie nedidhart(daughter of jim the anvil and i think a cousin of the harts or something) shame teddy hart was a prick and never got where his talent levels demanded.

WWE have pulled all their tributes, and recommending to people like SKY that they find something else to show this week rather than the tribute. As they didn't have the full facts when RAW was going to air.

I doubt he'll get put into the hall of fame now.

But then again an alcholic wife beater called George Best can get an airport named after him so who knows.

he will be there, maybe not next year give it a couple of years for everyone to forget.

He is in the top 10 of all time, certainly that have been through wwes doors and considering the best of all time is still about(shawn michels in my opinion) then there is no way he wont be there.

dave

I consider Bret Hart to be the best of all time, seems odd that it's almost every other wrestler he was close with that's either gone insane or dead. Or both.

That's fucked up. Ain't watched wrestling in years but always liked Benoit and was shocked to hear about it. Fuck. :(

have you seen their family tree?

it also excludes the wrestlers that were trained up through the Hart academy/school...and there were loads...
so it's not that much of a coincidence that brett knew so many of the dead.

the entertainment industry and drugs go hand-in-hand.
from the pressures of looking ripped through the use of anabolic steroids to the the excessiveness of cocaine abuse...

jake roberts, eddie guerrero, davey boy smith, shawn michaels, the guy that played 'mr perfect.'

kurt henning was mr perfect.

crash holly is another one on the recently fucked up list as well.

I didn't realise Jack Evans was trained by Stu Hart, i'd always assumed he was trained by Byran Alvarez but no he was trained by loads of people including the previously mentioned 2.

technical wrestler ? he was a actor .

The outcomes of matches and storylines in WWE are all planned of course, but you still have to be one hell of an athlete to succeed in it. Benoit knew more wrestling moves than you or I have had hot dinners - and could execute them brilliantly.

WWE.com is now reporting his sons condition Fragile X may him pushed him over the edge. Apparently he was one of the few guys who would take chair shots to the back of head and some wonder if this could have affected his brain in a way as to have made this tragedy possible.

im getting pissed off with wwe speculating especilly as they seem to be speculating everything other then the things they have control over, ie drugs testing and stress from touring schedule.

Don't you inherit this? If so he probably had it himself, those flying headbutts can't have been doing him any good either.
