Chomsky - USA as a leading rogue state??

rogue yam said:
No it doesn't. I had it pegged back at post number 10. The only thing more boring than Noam Chomsky is other leftists discussing Noam Chomsky. But hey, don't take my word for it. Ask the monkey!

Well you can discuss your countries history of torture, murder, overthrowing democratic elected parties and death squads if you like.......

Dude. Blue Oyster Cult rocks. Chomsky wanks.

Blue Oyster Cult suck shit from sewage systems. They're like Foreigner, but with a functional pair of balls. Crap for people who think that the Dead were too "out there".

Don't fear the spamster

This makes no sense at all.

The original Chicago Transit Authority (as they were called) were actually pretty good. They went down hill by the mid-70's when they started producing schmaltz to appeal to the burgeoning AOR market in the States...If You Leave Me Now is a later example of this bilge.

Lots. American music, mostly. All kinds thereof. Favorite is jazz. Again all kinds. Within this, my favorite is far-out hard bob and post-bop, but not "free" jazz (usually). Mingus. Coltrane. Sun Ra. Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Etc. If you know, you know.

But as I said, lots of different kinds of music altogether. Lots and lots.

Thanks for asking. You?

It makes perfect sense. BOC are shit, but they're slightly better than Foreigner, however neither of them are as good as the Grateful Dead, they're the kind of music listened to by people who think the Dead are too radical.

Not a huge fan of Jazz myself but do recognise the talent of some of those folk. Jazz tends to sit nice with drunks and coke fiends. I don't do much booze and class A's support America's profits from the war on drugs :D
Dudu Pukwana, Hugh Masekela, d'you dig homeboy?

I like Hugh Masakela. I've seen him perform a few times (most recently last fall) and I have one of his records, which I do listen to occasionally. I've never heard of that other guy.

BTW, your remarks concerning jazz and booze/coke are crap, but I expect you already know that.

Lot's and lot's. I archive live shows with the help of some friends.
Big loves are Neil Young, Marley, lots of world music, the aforementioned SA dudes, Roy Harper, Hefner, Dylan, Linton Kwesi, Nick Drake, Christy Moore, early US blues, Josh Ritter. I'd go on forever :o but that's just what's hanging round the PC right now.
It's all good if it makes you either relax or think

No, it makes no sense. BOC have their qualities although you need a sense of humor so most here on u75 are out. Foreigner is irrelevant. The Dead are number one in a field of one. I've forgotten much more about them than you'll ever know. But your either/or thinking regarding them and BOC (or anyone else for that matter) is bollocks. Here in SF, you'll find Deadheads at virtually any concert by other bands. We are not as factionalized, musically or otherwise, here in the US as you limeys are, to say nothing about how factionalized you lot think we are.

Neil Young - the Bard of La Honda. I've seen him often over the last twenty years or so. In small clubs a few times, too. I know people who know him, work with him, etc. Marley I never got to see. I was holding a ticket for a scheduled BMW show in Ann Arbor, MI when he got sick. Still miss him, although I'm kinda burnt out on the recordings. There are only so many there. Dylan, of course. I might go see him in New Orleans in a few weeks. Blues, absolutely. Muddy, Wolf, Leadbelly, etc. Saw Johnny Winter live in a small club last week. Y'all will laugh, I'm sure, but the dude put on a clinic. Those damn Texans just don't quit.

Like I said, lotsa good stuff.

Thanks for the tip and link. Never heard of him or the others mentioned at the Wiki entry. I'll remember and check it out when I get the chance.

I sometimes miss out on good stuff that for whatever reason never tours the US. It just never gets on my radar. I'm pretty live-show oriented. Have you heard The New Mastersounds? (English. Funk.) I saw them a few weeks ago, and liked them pretty well. First young English band I'd seen in a while.

For those who like to rock and truly have a sense of humor, there's San Francisco's finest, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They'll be appearing at Astoria in London on May 6 and 7, and then at Rock City in Nottingham on May 8. If you miss them you suck and I'm not to blame.

Sadly Dudu died a few years back so you better not wait for a live gig.
It's a long way to the Astoria for me but the last time i was there i saw Hugh strangely enough. We have a thriving live music scene in my two neighboring cities of Liverpool and Madchester which i hit quite often. It's a common social trip with our group of friends as are the summer festivals. It's how i found urban really.

I think we should have a thread in music where the p&p lot can play football like on Christmas day in WW2. Hey you might even get a game against the Iranians Yammy :D

Depends on the work and the cause.

Why, are you one of those miserable fuckers who's never done any voluntary work of any sort?

No I'm not. But I call that volunteering, not working. Working I do for money.
