a tucked in Ralph Loren shirt.

Branded shirts are a no no, tend to be accompanied by copious after-shave.

Short-sleeved formal shirts are even worse and are usually accompanied by BO. The sign of someone who has truly given up.

Flat fronts aren't really chinos IMO since 9/10 they come with jean-cut pockets not slanty ones.

There seemed to be a lot of these chino wearing peeps in Clifton in Bristol for some reason, people lower down the Hill of Bristol wore trainers and jeans as opposed to the horrific chinos and shirt thing.

Well, yes, I admit I lived and went to school there. Can't say I like the people much but no use denying one's roots.

Thing is if you're supposed to look vaguely smart at work there aren't many options for men.

I'm all paint smeared jeans and mucky t-shirts at home mind you.

Chinos, T-shirt and informal jacket is what I wear when I want to look respectable-but-not-posh.

For "psychotherapist", it's black jeans, black T-shirt and black jacket; for "the accused" it's white shirt, tie, and grey suit; the same suit with black T-shirt and sunglasses does nicely for "balkans arms dealer" :)

Got it all sussed, me, and I'd be stuck without my chinos.

<bumpity bump>

what a stupid thread. there's nothing wrong with chinos

in fact - i'm wearing a pair now, which i bought today

no. because i haven't got a WWII bomber jacket and i don't wear shades. but if i had such a jacket, i'd wear them together.

no he's not

there's many things that he'll change his mind about, but not about boat shoes, they make him feel violently ill.

maybe I'll get him a pair

Gawd, you'd look like Lawrence Smalls in my 3rd form french class.

He thought he looked like Tom Cruise in Top Gear. He actually looked like a physics teacher in jodhpurs with a creepy flat top.

:(

He's got boat shoes hasn't he. The fact they're checked slip ons from Vans doesn't stop them being boat shoes?

Yep, it's a true story.

Although it should be mentioned that I meant Top Gun rather than Top Gear. Clearly it's a Freudian slip though - old Jezza Clarkson's probably got a burgeoning collection of chinos just like our very own D'Pot

chinos- cheap / comfy / big deep pockets - downside is you cant wear them for too may days as they get a bit grimy in the sandy coloured versions & they hsow up wee spots on the crotch

and whats wrong with deck shoes ? comfy, dont have to tie the laces and stink only a bit when theyre old - more practical than nasty branded trainers with hungry soles

tut tut, Im surprised that you "urbs" are so fashion n image conscious...me ? I get whatever decathalon / primark / MIND shop are selling cheap thats comfy.

*NB- I have never been stylish anyway and missed the summer of love cos I was busy.

Pleated chinos, golf shirt with sports jacket and some tasseled loafers. The classic yank corporate casual uniform. Blackberry on the hip for extra cool.
