Chinawhite/Funky Buddha etc. Is it possible to have a good time in these places?

To be fairer still, Si (as I know him now) sent over a bottle of Lanson 'for the entertainment' which is even more :o really as I think that might make me his bitch or something.

 :(

i want to be simon's bitch (yes i know he's gay)

Anyone who knows me knows I like it dark and nasty, i.e. ToM and the like... love it love it love it - 100%

Now, I also love going up Mayfair with an Oz of chaz in the group, lookin fly, spending ill gotten gains like money grows on trees.

At ToM I can hardly string 2 words together as I sweat me neck off to what I classfiy top music, i.e. acid techno, and hardly speak to any beautiful women I may be out with, instead I stick to myself and troop the night away.

Up Mayfair I'm also fucked off my head, dancing to Kylie and Right Said Fred, full of coke and champagne with great mates having the time of my life with scantily clad beautiful Brazilian women.

Now, which is better... cos I have fun at both.

If you're with good company, and have resigned yourself to how expensive the drinks are, then I don't see why fun could not be had.

Watch her mate, she's a classy burd and no mistakin'

I'd be right up for a posey night but alas! finances not what they should be...

Both of them can be hit and miss, it depends on what you're up for tbh.
imo it's easier to be up for a ToM than doing the yuppie thing, but each has their place and time.

Amen and ting to that....depends on so much though to restrict yourself from one or another due to pre concieved concepts as to what they maybe like...seems stupid....all about the mood you are in and what you fancy that night

At least partly to do with how much money you have to spend, and your views on what does and doesn't constitute value for money, as well. If your preconception that some pricey clubs are total ripoffs is wrong, there's at least a chance that your wrongheadedness will be changed, or at least challenged, when you visit .... but many perfectly reasonable people have emerged from their experiences unhappy ...

I think kyser's post above (about switching between scenes etc.) is fair enough though. I'm no great fan of the scuzzier side of some squat parties myself!

I'm undecided, but on balance I think I'll give it a whirl. I like to flit between scenes as well, and seeing as I've never been to one of these places it'll be an experience, even if it is an awful one.

So then, I think we've established that Tiger Tiger is a toilet, but which ones are better? Oh, and are there any normal women in these places or are they all size 6?

I thought funky buddha was in London? Is there one in Brighton too?

God, I am so uncool.:(

Miss G - you will prolly have a good time if you go with that frame of mind. Like I say I have been and it was OK but not value for money. I also object to having to give the toilet man £10 when ever I wanna blow my nose
You will have fun and its good to say that you have given it a go you can make up your own opinion then. For certain nights its maybe got its place, like dirty clubs, squat parties, backroom pubs and bars
Fair play to you if you can fit in at china whites and a Squat party....

The last time I tried to get in to China Whites was with TicTac from the boards 11:30 on a Friday night and that was by giving the doorman a £150 bung, unfortunatly we were caught by the head doorman !!
So we headed to the END had got absoultly trashed, left at 6am wicked :D Jeff Mills was playing

Aw, thanks Mr Nice.:)

My mate reckons she's on a website that puts you on the guest list. There's no way at all I'd que for hours in the cold to be told I'm not wearing the right shoes. So Chinawhites is the one then yeah?

:D :D :D

What with this and the hand in dogshit story, I feel glad to be old.

Miss g - if you can get in really cheaply - go. At best it might be good fun, and even if you have a crap night you can come on here & tell us about the sad z-list slebs you spotted!:D

Anywhere with a name like 'Funky Buddha' should be avoided at all costs IMO.

Bleeurgh.

I was schizzle nizzled completely, but cos peeps think you have loads of wonga to chuck away they're rather friendly and there's lots of rub-a-dub if you want.

you mean they play reggae?

 :p ;)

I was once speaking ot a radio DJ on the phone and trying to get him to come to an event, an he says "Baby, I never go to clubs or music events I only go to china white"

LOL

About a week later a very well connected good mate of mine lets it drop into the conversation that he's a good mate of the owner of one of these clubs and that he's always being hassled to go there and be seen. He finds it so tiresome as he'd rather stay at home watching star trek and buying rare books off ebay.

Diff'rent strokes n all that

Miss Giggles: Go for it and make up your own mind. One person's hell is another person's heaven.

I went to China White back in 2000, for a colleague's birthday. He knew the owner so we all got in for free. My impression was lots of wannabes trying to pull each other, not my kind of thing at all, BUT lots of people seemed to be having a good time. I'm glad I went.

from what you said about yrself miss giggles i doubt you will like it much...but yeah it is good to experience all of what life has to offer

this is not an attack on people who enjoy/have a laugh these nights, a close freind was a club host in mayfair for many years and didnt share the values of the people he worked for, some people can be around awful people and not let it get to them, can even laugh at it..

you can make a deal with yr mate who is so up for these type of scenes...
that she will accompany you to an event that isnt her thing..thats what freinds are for..you endure china white, she endures a trad folk club or a fancy rat breeders exhibtion(just examples:p

i went to a few places like these about 4 years ago when 2 friends of mine were PR-ing for steve strange:o
they were both convinced his book was gonna be a bestseller:o its a good thing steve has went back to wales cos this bullshit media scene wasnt doing his health any good, also i think he took himself and his fame SERIOUSLY which you cant do in that type of environment :(

overall i found the whole thing VERY superficial/false/unpleasant and yes even loads of gratis champagne didnt make me enjoy these nites much,
i esp felt embarrassed onetime when our party sat behind velvet ropes and there were aquantances of mine in the "pleb section" there to promote their gig looking at me with envy:o

i just dont like clubs/bars which have "selective admission" policies..i also am not super keen on glorlification of celebrity and wealth..its not that i like "rough" places either just find it easier to connect with like minded people
who share my anti mainstream values at more alternative /non commercial events

the snobbishness comes when people start banging on about vacuous coke-heads this and boring rich-cunts that. i doubt the people of urban would like it if i started saying that only disgusting smelly ket-monkeys go to squat parties.

What, OTHER people go too. Where are they? Where?! :)

Never been to those places coz I really don't think I could bear it. If the twat who was having a loud mobile phone conversation next to me about how he and Cressida blagged their way into Chinawhite the previous night is in any way typical of its clientele, then I think my instincts are pretty sound.

I imagine it's popular with BB contestants.

Just think, if you're lucky you might bump into Chantelle!
