There is no difference in self-control between a paedo and an ordinary heterosexual, heteros don't go around attacking people of the opposite sex on the street, they will wait until an opportunity arises to get someone to consent to have sex with them, likewise a paedo will wait for an opportunity (dont want to finish that sentence ) The fact is that a paedo CANT get a child to consent to them, for several reasons legal and biological.

I'm in agreement with much of what you say max, but this is surely nonsense.

My preference is for lots and lots of good ol' heterosexual bonking (and I loves it I does,) but for a period of nearly 8 (looooooong) years I was entirely celibate. During that time, however, I certainly wouldn't argue that I couldn't get "any kind of sexual gratification at all."

Surely the same would be true of paedos?

There's plenty of legal "sexual experiences" they can have, including celibacy. There's plenty of sexual experiences to be had during celibacy - trust me . Eight years of it wasn't fun (obvious really, especially as, like I say, me loikes bonking - muchly) and somewhat less extended gaps between bonks is better. But I didn't go out raping, pillaging or manipulating my way into flagrant encounters with various German Shepherds (puppies or otherwise).

I do appreciate that paedos will be tempted and I also appreciate that the subjects of their affection are likely more easily led-astray than your average, large Alsation, but still......

Gratification is achievable in many ways. There are many things I'd "like" to have in life, money would be a start, but I don't go out robbing banks either.

Well at the moment we are doing neither of these, no paedos are being cured, and attacks on children are increasing and increasing AFAIK so we are not protecting them. IMO though the obvious priority should be in understanding human sexuality so that we understand why people are prepared to put their morals aside to fulfil their sexual urges

Ok maybe im just being led astray by media hysteria, but i never remember a time in the past when there was as much talk about it as there is now, and i assumed that was because it is increasing.

One thing we can say for sure is that the amount of paedo pornography is increasing MASSIVELY, because of the internet, whether or not this equates to an increase in attacks on children is anyone's guess

Well if i was in a society where i was not permitted to have sex with women, but where gay sex was legal, i would not be getting my 'preference' but i would have no interest whatsoever in going gay just to get sex, i assume that the same goes for paedos (ie they are not interested in having sex with consenting adults anymore than i am interested in having gay sex)

A couple of points here. This thread has given very little credit to President Bush and A.G. Gonzalez for their efforts to combat this scourge. There have even been comments of the "well, duh, everyone takes this stuff seriously" ilk. But everyone does not put the same effort into finding out perps, and not every jurisdiction metes out the same punishment to these notoriously-recidivist criminals. Three and a half years strikes me as scandelously light. But sometimes judges give out puzzling sentences, right? Well, that's the record handed down thus far for this crime in Canada, according to the above-excerpted article. That seems pretty messed up to me.

Speaking from my own experience as a child abused in the late 60s, though paedophiles will always be able to find especially vulnerable victims, hopefully children are now taught to speak out at the time and not supress it for 25 years ....
