Cheryl Cole's New Solo Single

Chris is certainly onto something. GA have ruled this decade, british pop music wise, and i can't think of any british pop act from the 90s that are as good as GA, either.

They're good, I'll grant you, but they don't write their own songs so they can't be put anywhere near Bowie imo. Also, there have been plenty of better acts since the 70s to the modern day. I could list some but you'll go "no, no, no", you know, "the way you do"...

She's a 'national treasure' I'll have you know, I heard it to the BBC

Mind you, they're not short on those it seems.

Seriously, if Cheryl Cole is a national treasure, our nation should get down the fucking pawn shop sharpish. Even setting aside the assault conviction - don't recall Helen Mirren getting any of those...- there's the fact that she is MARRIED to Ashely fucking Cole for fuck's sake! She lets him have sex with her! She's completely insane!! That'd be like calling Eva Braun a German national hero. Literally, we are dealing with that level of evil and malevolance.

you're making that classic mistake that pople always make. when me, and filter, and stavros talk about how good GA are, we're not only talking about chezza, kimba, nicola, nadine and sarah, we're talking about brian and miranda and all at xenomania - they are an integral part of what constritutes GA. xenomania have, via the medium of girls aloud, released some fucking fantastic pop songs into the world. i struggle to think of any xenomania track that comes close to anything they've done with GA. maybe kylie's "giving you up", but that's only cos i used to be big-time kylie fan.

Yeah, but in fairness Ashley did puke halfway through shagging someone-not-Cheryl and then get back on the job. How could she resist a romeo lover like that?

Altho you're right about the pawn shop - she's a northern burd, so must have loads of gold hoop earrings and that to sell off.

Yeah, I'll grant you that on that basis then but, still, I just don't think they've written the best british songs of the last 30 years. Even off the top of my head, I'd say Whitesnake have done better! Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Black Grape, Oasis (1st album), Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Dizzee Rascal, Jehst....the list could go on and on, really, and I haven't even put much thought into it so far. GA are fit for purpose and, undoubtably, have done much better music than might've been expected and clearly shit all over the Saturdays etc but, arguably, the Sugababes, even, are better.

I don't really care if they wrote them or Xenomania wrote them... I care about the end result and how well it's performed live.

On that strength, I can't think of anyone as consistently good going back as far as Bowie. Bowie to my mind is best pop act ever, then Girls Aloud.

Well, I suppose that depends on how you define 'pop'. I think there are better musical acts and artists than GA, but I wouldn't term them pop.

BTW, glad you're back Chrisfilter and did you know that "Chrisfilter" fits perfectly to the tune of Goldfinger?

Thanks mate, and no, I'd never thought of it like that.

My real name fits Air's 'Sexy Boy' perfectly. I like to sing it to myself.

sugababes have done some great singles, but for every good single there's a few dull as shite album tracks. GA, on the other hand, have a consistent record of not only having killer singles but fantastic non-filler album tracks too.

My real name fits Kowalski by Primal Scream but, er, barely anybody remembers that song and my name's so fucking stupid it doesn't really fit any others :(

My name also fits "I just want your kiss, boy" by Kate Nash if you replace 'you kiss boy'.

I always think "Thanks Kate, but I'm married".

Sold more records, didn't they.

As for the Sugarbabes, they're damaged goods. I reckon that sheep-voiced Keisha's a right bitch and a half.

That was in the era when people bought records and awaited the TOTP eagerly too.

GA are a little squit of a group in comparison.
