kind of polite dance music for people who don't do dance music

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

To varying degrees, all three are nice polite music made by nice polite people for other nice polite people. Two Toms, a Simon, an Ed, an Andy, and a Felix, FFS. :p

If I were forced to choose between them, I'd go for The Comical Brothers. I like If You Kling To Me I'll Klong To You, Sunshine Underground/Asleep From Day, Star Guitar, The Private Psychedelic Reel. The rest is too klunky.

I voted Basement Jaxx because they put on a fantastic live show. Chemical Brothers are OK, I suppose, because they're kind of techno, but they're second rate techno.

Groove Armada are just tedious.

The Jaxx by a country light year for me. All three albums have been very very good, especially "Kish Kash" where they really showed a pop producer element to their cannon by tailoring tracks to guest vocalists of the calibre of Dizzee Rascal and JC Chasez. "Where's Your Head At" does get overplayed but only in the sense that their other stuuf deserves exposure too. I would have thought their main peers in terms of similarity were Daft Punk, although they obviously don't qualify for this poll being French and everything. I would have real trouble choosing between BJ and DP.

Would have though Leftfield might have been included, although they're not my favourite.

There was a Chems v Jaxx (but not GA) thread about a year back...I think Milesy might have started it. Anyway, I posted reams of boring shit up on that, but mostly in agreement with Stavros. :)

IMO Jaxx just shade it on grounds of eclecticism and spotless pop sensibility fused with street-level 'authenticity' (for want of a better word :o ) although there's not much finer in the mainstream techno arena than the Chems' 'Leave Home', 'Block Rockin' Beats', 'Lost In The K-hole', 'Out Of Control' and 'Star Guitar'.

Groove Armada - despite 'By The River' and 'If Everybody Looked The Same' - are generally rather pedestrian and markedly less enduring in comparison, and the albums have dated far more than the other two duos'.

i voted Chemical Brothers out of desperation, really. Groove Armada are fucking toilet, only Superstylin isn't shit and even that annoys me now.

Basement Jaxx? two or three decent tunes. Chemical Brothers a handful more than that.. But on the whole, meh.

...Basement Jaxx - say what you like about them but if dance music is about dancing then you can't knock them, it is impossible to sit still to one of their tunes. Blinding live as well.

Jaxx win by a country mile
I agree, although I like all of them. Sparklefish, Magic Sam and my hub all managed to sit still during their set at last years Glasto

I still managed a jig though :D
