cheesy/uncool songs/theme tunes you have a strange affection for...

Approaching 40 and I realise there is no such thing as cheese, only twisted youthful (mis)perception... ;)

Barbie Girl - Aqua. The bloke in that looks fcking twisted, reminds me of my mate Erden, ha ha.

Wiggle My Ears sung by Derek Griffiths on the Play School album, featuring Tick Tock Song Of The Clock and all the classics.

God-like genius.

any venga is good, but surely the real class number is "I like to party" - absolutely beautiful. I did enjoy the expansion of the Venga Universe with the Vengabus is Coming, but the simple emotions of early Venga were my preference.

I played it out once upstairs at the 333, then mixed it with gabba - turned a few heads to say the least, and went down an absolute storm!!!

You're right of course - they both have equal place in my heart, but I've just realised that it was actually 'I like to party' that Mr K sampled. I believe you can hear it on the latest Uglyfunk release, in fact, if you listen hard.

I can't remember who it's by but the original Barbie girl was far better than aqua's version. John Barry is a genius, there's quite a few of his more obscure work on various back to mine compilations. The one to out-cheese them all tho' has got to be the A-team theme which I found on vinyl the other day, perfect pitch for scratching into a phat hip-hop beat........:D

not on the work pc again?

Saying "John Barry" is cheating - that's pretenting to be not-cool, but secretly knowing it's actually gone full circle and is now very cool. :)

Let me try - I'm fairly sure these have yet to go fully round the "cool circle"*. Or even started anywhere near the top in the first place....

Toto - Africa
FGTH - Welcome to the Pleasuredome
Enigma - (pretty much anything they've done)

Notice the 80s synth cheese pattern.

I always joke that this is music-on-hold for the Samaritans. At least when they want to get the call rate down. :)

...and lest not forget, the crucial disco queen song:

Gloria Gaynor with I Will Survive! :D

i'll never forget the moment when the DJ put that on in an obscure Vietnamese gay club at 4 in the morning, everyone just RUSHED onto the dancefloor and gave all they had, the mood was unbelieveable, pure joy, innit-

I share your shame, Paulie! It truly is a wonderful load of old cobblers. :)

Talking of which, some lyrics by the underrated singing star that is Derek (comfy roll-neck) Griffiths:

Wiggle My Ears:
All I want to do
Is wiggle my ears with you-oo-oo
All I want to do
Is wiggle my ears
Wiggle my ears
etc

The Play On album. 1978, Songs from Play School. In case anyone's interested.

Played theme from 'Black Beauty' last week, seemed to go down well, some girl started doin some odd horse dance.

Grange Hill theme also seems to go down well with old funksters.

No no, no-no no no, no-no no no, no-no there's no limit,
No, no limit, let's reach for the sky
No valley too deep, no mountain too high
No, no limit, we do ourselves right
We do what we want and we do it all night

:D
