Cheap cuts of meat that make something good?

Bit late but the bestest cheapest and yummiest meat is goat. Get a whole leg and ask 'em to saw it into chunks (you cook it on the bone). Season to suit.. turmeric, chilli, garlic, cumin and whatever else is in the cupboard... marinate for quite a while, and cook with onion and water for about 3 or 4 hours on a low heat, topping up with water every now and then so the meat remains covered. Serve with rice and peas and salad mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh god, I HATE fucking goat.

I'm with pogofish on the slow cooker idea - I use mine loads. Chuck stuff in in the morning, eat when home from work in the evening. Tough lumps of stewing steak is turned into tender melting chunks - yum. Pot roast is also good, as is any sort of stew (except for goat -see above)

Don't mind goat at all, but it's a faff to prepare and eat with them bones and fat. Prefer mutton in a (West Indian) curry if I'm honest.

Ham hock's worth a go, for soups and rich mean trimmings alone. And even whole free range chickens don't end up bad value if you get them for a good price - you can reuse for so many meals that you quickly get your money's worth.

Nother vote for the pig tummy here. Not exactly healthy, mind :)

Another vote here :)

My dad used to regularly come back from his catering place and would bring back belly pork and would slow roast it with chinese spices for ages in the oven.It turned all lovely and crispy and has a lot of flavour.Crackling is lovely.

I used to get stew beef and place it in the bottom of a slow-cooker. I'd then top the cooker up with roughly chopped onions, carrots and potatoes right to the top. I'd then add a glass of red wine and turn the thing on low for 12 hours. Best stew you've ever had and very cheap.

fantastic!

Yep! Belly pork.

Young Miss aqua gave me a jar of crab-apple jelly a few years back and it made the most spectacular glaze for belly pork I've ever tasted. <drools> Nothing else comes close. We are talking serious 'makes your head go funny' taste sensation.

<makes note to send aqua off to Sutton Common this autumn for crab-apples>

I hope they've had their delivery in, and it's not to busy!! :o:mad::D

yeah, a half shoulder of lamb is great value - roasts and curries especially. Very very tasty.

Shanks are good, but not that cheap anymore, IME - they got too trendy. Half shoulders the boy!
