That is beyond ugly.

If you want something that can be a van for moving house, and can carry lots of people, and sleep four, and has 4WD to get out of muddy fields, there's only one choice.

If you're really clever you can get a good one for £3.5k

That also looks like it's fallen off the ugly tree and hit an awful lot of branches on the way down before landing face done in the mud.

Natch, there's not a speck of dirt on the 'offroad' vehicle.

I quite like 4x4's now. I had the pleasure of going in a new Range Rover the other day, beautifully smooth and not as cumbersome as I thoought it would be.
If I had a choice I would get a Lexus though.

I'd say don't go Jap because it's a fucker to get parts if they go wrong. Especially avoid Nissan :(

Try the Ole Model ( to 1999) VOlvo v70 estate AWD version

its taller than the usual V70s, bigger wheels and susp I think and beefier bumpers etc, but is just like driving a very sure footed 200 bhp estate with comfy leather and air con - you can alos get a 7 seat version ( in the boot ) or even fold the back seats down utterly flat and stick a double matress in - what more do you want ?

avoid Landies and especially Discoveries unless you a penchant for renting a garage with a pit - you will need it

They rarely go wrong though, I've got a 14 year old Nissan with 136,000 on the clock and it never misses a beat.

Even if they do parts are pretty easy to source from specialists on the web, even for a non-UK model like the Bongo. Just don't go to dealers cause they'll fleece you every time.

We've got an old (M reg) D21 pick up and it's sometimes impossible to get parts for it wherever we look. I got told on here (I think) that Nissan have a habit of making new style parts that don't fit the older vehicles.

Not so hot if you get hit by one though.

:(

No joy from Nissan-Navara.net, ClubFrontier.org or NissanNavara.org? Bunch of tarts with D40s no doubt ;)

The D21, D22 and D40 progression saw some fairly major redesigns so I'm not surprised there's a lack of parts compatibility. To be fair the manufacturers are in a bit of a catch 22 as if things don't change then they're accused of not progressing and start to lose market share.

bit of a shit to drive around town which is, let's face it, where yours will likely spend the majority of it's time, even if you do have off-road plans for it.

It will spend the majority of it's time parked up. I only ever drive when I am leaving London, I very rarely drive around town hence the ridiculously low mileage on my current car ;):p

You can get Fronteras dirt cheap. The drivetrain and chassis are as tough as fuck being directly lifted from an Isuzu truck. The Sport is great fun but horrifyingly expensive to run (mine was about 22mpg) and the engines get a bit 'cammy' after 60000 miles.

The diesel engined LWB are supposed to be pretty good.

I'd sooner tackle muddy glasto fields with on of these rather than a heavy 4x4.

I'm buying one with a solid diesel engine in it :)

But, if you insist on a 4x4 and seriously don't think a car says anything about your image I'd recommend one of these:

TBH old disco's aren't that bad on the road either, mine does a nice steady 85 although as I said keeping it in a straightline over 65 is a diff kettle of fish.
