Chaz goes Max Gogarty in Slovakia.

Rutita, I've got to be honest, I've only stayed one night so far, I've got to finish a job further North, then go to Unsound Italy and get ripped to the tits on drink and drugs. Then my proper tour of duty begins.
It rains here about every third day, but it's torrential, monsoon like, and the flashes of lighting are like nothing I've seen before.
Bears? Fuck that, I'm buying one of these. ;)
And the roof? Well that's my barn, so I'm not to fussed. :)

Slovakia does get pretty hot in the summer. As it's land locked there's no cooling sea breezes so it can get very sultry. Luckily it's too hot for the bears in daytime. They prefer to hunt at night.

I have total admiration for what you are doing...though I would need to give the place an almighty scrubbing...is that cobwebs on the table ? Have you brought cushions with you to make it feel homely?

This is a brilliant thread. Id so love to do what you are doing Chazegee

Barking mad mentioned NZ. Both of my sons are going there in about ten weeks for a year or two. Im so jealous! :(

NZ is lovely. About the same size as the UK mainland but with 56m less people!

Learnt something interesting today. If you fancy a girl in Slovakia, you get a pine tree core, attach a little ribbon tied Christmas tree core to the top, and erect it in her front garden (for the whole town to see), and then hope that she puts out.

The more you fancy a girl, the higher the Pine tree core, some of them go up to 100 foot. Quite why you would bother erecting a 50 foot tree core if you only slightly fancy a girl is well beyond me.

I also saw a core, buffeted by the wind, and in grave danger of smashing through the girls living room, what a way to crash and burn, sounds up my street. :D

What's your nearest town, Chaz? That panorama looks like quite far Eastern Slovakia to me.

Just booked tickets to fly me and baby out to Poprad in August - Sky Europe's rather random pricing system decided to drop the ticket prices by about £50 yesterday, so I jumped on it while they were still in the mood!

Regarding bears, when she was a kid, my mum walked into a clearing in a forest at the same time as a baby bear walked in the other side. They basically both went 'Shit!' and ran off in opposite directions. Very lucky mummy bear wasn't around - a mummy bear around cubs in the most dangerous thing. Well, the really dangerous things are lynx, which are very territorial and very fast. Also very rare, though. My mum's house agent actually did see one sitting by a tree while she was walking her dog,so was lucky not to be attacked.

It's Utekac, about an hour South of Poprad. I'll be here in August, I'd love to come out and meet you, so keep us posted!

There's Lynx's as well.
Great. :(

Well, they are more in forested areas high up in the mountain and by and large avoid people!

There's cool stuff like eagle owls too. :)

Today, there will be a limited punctuation service, Im in Zagreb on route to Unsound and the keyboard is quite special. Spent last night trapped in a Tom Waits song in Budapest, I arrived by train at 7, walked into the local park, and heard some really bad singing wafting in the summer air, discovered it was Nick Cave, managed to queue and get myself in. Im a bit of a converted fan, hes got a pretty good baptist minister routine going on, and was likeable banterwise. The die hard fans were telling me that hes lost it a bit in the past few years though.

Then much weirder, as my connecting train was leaving at 6 in the morning, I whittled my hours away in an all night bar near the station. In there I met Franco, a Violent Hungarian midget, who kept forcing me to dance by punching me in the nuts, Im guessing this was his usual party trick as his nose was freshly broken. I was also doing pretty well with the barwoman Ona, chanllenging her to a penis drawing competition. I blew it all when I went a step to far and showed her my arab strap.

This anti-depressant and booze combination is eventfull, things almost got out of hand on my last night in Slovakia, leaving a hiphop club, I got into a taxi before Rado and Wal and blacked out. I came too in a strange bed in a completely bare room, as I climbed down the seventh flight of stairs, I realised this was definitely not my house. I was even more confused when I left a big institutionalised door way to be confronted by a silo of decommisioned missiles, it turns out that the taxi driver had me mistaken for a drunken Slovak cadet, and sleep walked me past (quite high..) security into the military academy.

What I need to recouperate is a week of hard raving in Italy then. :)

:D

I'll forgive the lack of bears for the time being. But, how does a long haired fucking hippie get mistaken for a military cadet? :D

Coming back to UK tomoz, took bucketloads of drugs in Italy, saw a nun jogging in full habbit on the beach, then met a beautiful girl with a hammock.

All of these things happened. :hmm:

All things considered, I havent spent much time in Slovakia.

Chazegee, I've read this from start to finish, what an excellent thread, sounds like you had a brilliant time!
So what's next then? Dare I ask!

The pics of inside the hut reminded me of when I got a job out on a station in the Northern Territory, and they gave me a hut to sleep in with no walls, and in the middle of the night I was woken by a python chasing rats in the roof, who were hissing at it!

Things are moving on a bit, I've just taken out a crippling loan to buy a bit of land. It's got two lovely houses, a cherry and apple orchard, a corn field, dove cots, a well, wild strawberries everywhere and best of all, 15 bees hives.

All for 20 Gwand, nice.

After my hut recoding sessions, I move in and try and live off the land.

Photos to follow.

Interesting.

Really hope this works out. Do you plan to restore the houses?

All sounds a bit to cheap to me :hmm:

Restore a bit, although the condition is pretty sound. I need to put in a septic tank and proper toilets though. Oh, and get some bees that don't have A.I.D.S. ;)

If I can sell it next year when the Euro hits Slovakia, I will. If not, well, I'll be paying 75 grand repayment on a 25 grand loan. :D

Just arrived back in SK. I drove 40 hours with two hours sleep to get my car here. Got so stressed that I abused a toilet staff attendant a la Cheryl Cole. Seriously uncool. Midnight sightseeing in Brugge, and yep, it was shite.

Fell asleep at a service station in my car, woke up roasting like a dog, Kebab in Nurenburg and the wanky Beckesque lyric bank is full. :hmm:

Now in Vazec and full of Bubble love herbal E's, not sure if this mission is such a good idea...Read an Urban75 thread; "What's the daftest thing you've done on a breakup." Hmmmm.

Oh well. Hammock girl's going to stay with me for a few weeks in August, better install a toilet....and industrial strength hammock cord.

Also, she plays drums, so I'm going to buy a child's kit and we'll bang it out all night. ;)

And have sex.

Anyway, Urbanites come and see me, it's brilliant here, but I need people. There's a Lido ten minutes from my house, and I can guarantee it will be warmer than Brockwell.

I'm free first week of August. And I love Slovakia. Hovorish po Slovensky? To je krasne jaszyk. Haven't been back for ten years but I'm sure the Tatry are still gorgeous and the hospitality of the locals remains unsurpassed. Borovicka !!! y madyarsky goulasch prosim.:)

Baby's got her passport photo now (hilarious it is too!) so she'll have her passport soon and then we'll be in Slov 17-30 August, so I'll keep in touch with you nearer the time - two weeks is quite a long stretch, so I'm sure I can make it out your way at some point during the week.
