Chavez calls for ban on Halloween

kasheem said:
:) Agree with you. This guy needs to be locked up and have a nice long talk with a team of psychologists.

Bollocks. Chavez is fantastic all-round entertainment. We need more mad bastards like him in charge of countries.

pbman..........As an oldie myself, I guess I wouldn't laugh

Look at the link, he trips over his own shadow, and face-plants it.

If i showed a clip of ford, doing it you would laugh your ass off.

my ass off. You gotta admit the the number of times the US has tried to "off" Castro would make a great comedy "soap". Guess god isn't ALWAYS on the sabateur's side. (Now I'm laughing) :p

True, it's pretty much him, Castro, Kim Il Sung, and maybe some unnamed Africans, plus Mugabe.

In the halcyon days, we had Idi Amin, Enver Hoxha, Emperor Bokassa, Papa Doc, the first generation Middle Eastern despots, Noriega, Ceausescu, etc etc.

Chavez is great, they need a few more like him in South America.

I think he's probably got a point about Halloween as well - don't they celebrate the Day of the Dead in Venezuela? Seems to me like Dia de los Muertos celebrations make all that messing around with pumpkins look a little tame in comparison.

Got help Johnny Canuck...........John Perkins

You can get help for that paranoia, you know.

is laying it out fine and clear (Confessions of and Economic Hit Man). Paranoia is definitely NOT my problem! :)

Why are you calling him a John Perkins? I don't get it.

John Perkins didn't go round murdering people. 'Economic hitmen' work by bribing people.

Yeah JC...........ALL of them created and financed by

you-know-who! (The CIA of the USA). Get real. The world has survival problems only aggravated by the Bush-cabal and other born-again, DU-speading, marauding imperialists and money-launderers. (think IMF and World Bank, Pharmaceuticals, Military-Industrial complexes etc........plus)

but when they, (thw EHM), fail, the "problem" is turned over to the more physical flank of the "operation". Read J. Perkins. He was there. He was in the front-lines of the "mix". :( It ain't pretty!)

WE might all look the same to you, but that was an east cost democrat with three names.

I never knew some countries were run by unnamed Africans. Surely someone must have named them at some point

I enjoy haloween always hated the fact that when I was at school the next day wasn't a holiday.

Anyhow I think im going to dress up as Adam Ant tomorow if I can manage to find a decent outfit either that or have enough breton fishermen tops to be a robber and use pillowcases for SWAG bags.

on saturday night my mate dressed up as Adam Ant, his outfit was sweet. I went as a Red Army soldier and my mate went as a detourned SS officier, of course sitting in the pub at 9 o clock dressed like your just about to storm Berlin whilst no else is dressed up is not much craic.

can be a brass neck right enough but suppoe the women always approach yo so no need for the awkward icebreaker

aye well it would have probably been fucking fantastic if I hadn't been in a gay club.

Best thing though was this blonde himbo coming up to me and shouting "Saddam Hussein, I bet no one esle has got it".

Fuck me how could you be that thick.

Actually the Kremlin is quite good cos loads of straight girls go, though most of them have bastarding boyfriends (probably why they got there, to escape lecherous lads).

went to my local (out in the sticks near Wales) and saw a couple of thoroughly undetourned klansmen outfits (they had big fucking wooden crosses with St George's crosses in the centre), being served quite happily by the bar staff and having jokes &c with their mates. Sat in the corner fuming about these brazen cunts and explaining the history of the klan to the kids around me, until I was - wisely - escorted from the place by my friends.

Damn, that really fucked up that night and my view of that pub and everything else. I wise I'd been among people willing to do stuff >:\

Eh?

Are you suggesting that, round your way, dressing up in KKK garb is part of Halloween nonsense? It's not something I've ever come across or read about before.

Considering its an ancient Celtic festival I think Hugo has his wires crossed.
Pagans celebrate Samhain at this time of year, most Americans celebrate consumerism :(
Those living in Venezuela probably have their own local traditions which they should fight to keep alive rather than succumbing to the imperialism of their traditions by the west

If you really, really think chavez compares to
Idi Amin, Enver Hoxha, Emperor Bokassa, Papa Doc, the first generation Middle Eastern despots, Noriega, Ceausescu
....you need psychiatric treatment. He is the legitimate, elected president of Venezuela - all he is done wrong, from your capitalist perspective, is piss off the oligarcicos
v poor, Johnny.

In Venezuela they have a good term for the greedy powerful crooks who ruled the country: los escuálidos!

Erm but Hugo also talks of the people in Venezuela's immigrant roots alongside native(what do you class as native) i.e. Arabic. There was large 19th century Irish immigration to South America especially Venezuela and and Argentina alongside Scottish, Welsh and German. 'Those living in venezuela' have inherited many european alongside native american traditions and reinvented them it wasn't all Spanish and native culture. Maybe yo should think more before the venting your anger at me

yes those nice wee people should fight to preserve themselves like something out of the national geographic, wanker. Culture has always been dynamic, I mean surely the local traditions would just be the product of Spanish Imperialism and the native ones before that Mayan imperialism.

I thought it was los golpistas.
Some of them were clearly that too, in April 2002.

(I wouldn't put it past them to try again, though hopefully much of the army is loyal.)

Was my understanding that the term had crossed over and was now shorthand for the entire economic elite ('cept the Chavista economic elite obviously :p )

Apparently, yes. It's new on me, as well. I don't really have a fucking clue what it was about - just that it was hugely distressing. I want to be back in London - or even in Birmingham. Anywhere anyone trying that would get fucked up. :(

nb. not sure if it's a long-standing tradition or the first time ever - never seen it before...
