Chat with James Purnell.

or the fact that most places i would think would be unable to process every client daily.

just another example of ministerial arrogance riding roughshod over the workforce.

E2A: thing is JC staff will view your time coming in to sign as looking for work in that it's getting you out the house, so while you're in the JC/in town you are actually better equipped to find work

its not a blog, he's doing a webchat thing tomorrow, we should make a concerted effort to flood the fucker with awkward questions, like why is it the tories support your proposals, why do you treat everyone out of work like a skiver, why does stopping benefits for drug abusers stop them using drugs (as opposed to doing more crime), why do you hate lone parents, etc etc.

Sorry, I meant the Blairite one mentioned earlier

btw, for the last two years i have been plaguing the BBC with complaints about its simplistic, Govt PR led coverage of welfare issues, it would be great if other posters did so, if it is spun again tomorrow, complain...

I might be out then. I personally take exception to him saying 'many people on benefits are on drugs'. Many people not on benefits are on drugs. Fucking scumbag.

Yeah...Great Paulie....Why do hate single parents? What a clown.

Ok Balders, with the current climate of fear surrounding children in this country, do you agree that it is a good move to force all lone parents to sign on for jobseekers allowance and be required to look for work, regardless of their wants or needs to take care of their kids? Further, as the Green Paper wants all JSA claimants of longer than 2 years to do work-for-dole, how will this initiative assist lone parents who will clearly end up being the kind of claimant who does claim JSA for more than 2 years?

I think in the current climate of millions of people being consigned to the scrapheap for not just years but decades, that something a lot more drastic than anything NL are proposing needs to be done.
I think it would be great if some single parents got PT work which fitted in with looking after their kids.

I think by and large Liberals are frightened to even ask questions about what can be done. Much easier to let people rot on benefits living the life of 2nd class citizens while you chat with your friends about civil liberties.

Whose letting anyone rot? What about giving lone parents the choice about whether they work? How about providing them with the support without threatening to cut their benefits? Why the need for punitive policies that are intended to grab headlines and keep the Mail happy, rather than looking to help those at the sharp end of these policies?

Don't argue with him the bloke is an idiot

I support the idea of getting drug users into treatment and off benefit.
Its a ridiculous idea, the way that they're approaching it. You don't encourage people to engage with treatment programmes by threatening them, that will be completely counterproductive. Talk to any drugs worker, all this policy will do is put up another barrier and increase criminality.

The 'success' of drug workers in getting people off drugs is very debatable, most of them are still hooked into prescribing legal drugs.

Oh god i wondered when you would mention the mail...Always a good one to keep up your sleeve eh...
Whose letting anyone rot eh....Well anybody who wants to keep the status quo....The kind of unwritten agreement that if we give millions of people barely enough to live on everything is OK.
Why should people be paid to do nothing? I think loads of people on benefits could work and want to work. The benefits system traps them into relative poverty. The thing they need is a way out of that poverty. And yeah that does mean carrot and stick...

What help do you think it is that people like you can offer to help people out of poverty?

the trouble is with this Tory govt it's all stick and no carrots and the real Tories may even be worse ...
Its like a big competition to see who can be nastiest to the vulnerable

...unless of course you think working in a dead end job and earning not even enough to cover the bills is a "carrot"

I don't really know how these things work but if it's anything like their petitions what will happen is he'll use Blair speak to ignore you. Or more likely have party stooges planting easy questions. Cunt of the highest order.

Maybe that's the point! Maybe you need a special stooges code to put questions to the twat

like the fake labour supporters paid to surround blair and which all parties use today even th eolpmipic bid hired rent a mob to look polpuar on camera

the questions will be screened i expect with loads of 'nice ones' and wanabe be labour mps or labour memebrs ringin you know th etype who pop up on question time

Yeah like the house of commons - "can the honourable gentleman tell me how great the party's policy is on xxxxx" etc...

More mind numbing cognitive dissonance from Zanulab; if they really cared about the catastrophe that is literacy and numeracy in this country, why did they start cutting Ufi (learndirect)'s budget year on year?

Todays the day but I can't see where you go to access this webchat?

???
What a fucking palaver. Go to the page i linked to in o/p, then click on the "put a question to JP" link, then enter your name and login on the new page that pops up, then you should be on the webchat
