Charlie Brookers Screen Wipe

I saw last night's Screenwipe and I thought "I already know this". In fact, I've been banging on about our so-called news progs for the last year or so. Sure, it's worse in the States but we're becoming just as bad at providing fact-free news (often its either marketing or entertainment) presented by toothsome, coiffured newsreaders who would be better off in another industry.

This is a bad time to be a real journalist.

Sadly true. The only way, I think, is independant journalism on the web.

Brooker is very, very funny, imo. This has me on the floor recently, re marc bannerman in the jungle (sure I've postes this before...)

The most depressing spectacle is the sight of Marc Bannerman repeatedly dribbling over Cerys from Catatonia, who seems to be playing along out of confusion. This is disappointing because Cerys is quite sweet, while Bannerman looks and sounds monumentally gormless. It's like watching a well-intentioned student nurse letting a brain-damaged adult baby get too close for comfort. Lord knows what Bannerman's "oh" face looks like, although I fear we're about to find out. My guess is that at the point of climax he merely looks confused, gawping at the yop spurting from his funpole in cowed amazement, like a dog trying to follow a card trick.

I'd disagree - when you look at some of the investigative journalism that wins awards, and especially the ever-superb "serious" bits of Private Eye, it is not all bad. Besides, web-journalism, especially on contentious issues (the most obvious being climate change), often ends up in entirely circular debates.

I only recently found out the Charlie in Charlie Brooker's name stands for Charlton.

I might be going against the grain slightly by saying this, but as much as I love screenwipe, I like it just a little less since I saw two seperate TV guides describe it as 'Irreverent'.

:(

Brooker knows his stuff. I'm surprised the telly execs have let him loose tbh.

Because they know all the Barry Shitpeas will watch it, going "huhuh that is so fucking true"

I liked the best of 2007 one, if only because he gave that doctor who episode with the angel statues the kudos it deserves :)

Thank you foreigner. I may never have enjoyed watching these without this thread. Some of the funniest TV I have watched in a long time!
