Charlie Brookers Screen Wipe

I saw last night's Screenwipe and I thought "I already know this". In fact, I've been banging on about our so-called news progs for the last year or so. Sure, it's worse in the States but we're becoming just as bad at providing fact-free news (often its either marketing or entertainment) presented by toothsome, coiffured newsreaders who would be better off in another industry.

This is a bad time to be a real journalist.

If you want decent news, try TV5. You may have to learn French but at least its news. ;)

Last nights was probably my favourite Screenwipe ever; sure, it wasn't as funny as normal and was considerably more depressing, but I thought it was a fucking great capsule synopsis of everything that's wrong with modern news reporting.

Respect, Charlie!
Absolutely. Loved the Adam Curtis bit, too...

Who the fuck was that yank guy! Bill Nazi or someone?

The fuck? I'm surprisd his guest didn't shove a pen in his fucking EYE!

a tiny, but the best, bit:

fuck that's depressing - :D at the van that went passed between stations and the total irony of sky reporter talking about the McCans getting a little bit of privacy just as the camera man zooms right in to grab a shot of Gerry's face as he gets in a vehicle.

This wass not news - this is just looking at stuff"

eta: love the News Garnish and the old clips - were those geuine 80's computer graphics?

If you think O'Reilly is bad you should check out Sean Hannity. ;)
Freedom Concerts

Hannity has organized and sponsored Country-Western Music themed "Freedom Concerts" since 2003 to raise funds for the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, a charity created by Oliver North to provide college scholarships to children with a parent severely disabled or killed in military action. The concerts have been supported by artists such as Martina McBride, Lee Greenwood, LeAnn Rimes, Montgomery Gentry, Darryl Worley, Charlie Daniels, and Michael W. Smith.

The Freedom Concerts were held annually in the Northern Star Arena at the Six Flags Great Adventure Amusement Park in Jackson, New Jersey through 2006. In 2007, the annual concert was expanded to a summer series held at locations across the USA, culminating with the September 11th event at Great Adventure marking the 6th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.[15]

Speakers at the Sept 11, 2007 concert included Oliver North, Newt Gingrich, Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Guliani and several conservative talk show hosts from WABC Radio.

Wonder how long before ITV pick up on Sick on a Widow?:D

For someone who works in TV that whole section was too spot on. I thought it might be all a bit too much of an 'inside joke' for anyone else to find funny, but I guess I am wrong.

The old guard used to be worried about young wippersnappers like me changing the nature of TV and taking their jobs. Now I'm worried about the young wipper snappers.

Re:Gingerman's post...
Yup, said shows are real & shown on U.K t.v...
America's Next Top Model & it's sequel/spinoff Britain's Next Top Model (Currently hosted by Kelly Osbourne) is currently shown on U.K Living and it's timeshift channel UK Living +1, & My Super Sweet 16 is shown late nights on MTV 1....
At least MTV's being more honest in it's choice of transmission time....
