Charlie Brooker on UK politics

Fela fan

"Maybe the whole country unites."

Unites around a platform of doing fuck all and being shat on over and over again if past experience is anything to go by.

Any non violent protest can be ignored, lied about, patronised, stereotyped or provocatuered into violence.

Any violent protest will be a distraction. The state can blame the naughty serfs.

As BarkingMad says, they have ducks lined up on this one.

That's not to say we shouldnt make the effort to educate and mobilise people but it will be an uphill struggle.

Terrorist legislation has already been misused in a string of non-terroist events, so rioting and direct action is certainly going to lead to a whole raft of misuses of it.

Personally i'd be careful about posting anything mentioning 'TSoR' on websites and agreeing with violence - as many have done on various websites, mainstream and otherwise. Certain security forces are bound to be on the look out....

I've not been actively involved in politics or gone on a demo in decades, but I'm definitely going to be getting actively involved in the coming 6 months. I'm genuinely pissed off and haven't got a lot to lose.

Maybe I'm an isolated case, but what if I'm not?

This applies to me too, especially the bit in bold. I've been out of the activism loop for a couple of years but I'm thinking it may soon be time to dust off the old radical conscience and see if I can't help get something done.
