Charity shops

Where do you get all the nice designer stuff? (I also live in South London)

Wimbledon has a good run of 4 or 5 charity shops thats good for decent quality clothes, & its only about 10 mins from Streatham on the overland train - about £2 return :) . I got a lovely double feather duvet from one of those shops.

Clapham Junction & Balham are good for kids stuff - nappy valley.

When I'm in north London, I try & fit in a mooch around Palmers Green (there's a charity bookshop there which is always worth a look) & Southgate - they've got about 5 shops each, though I've never found good clothes in them, just books.

The charity shops on Marylebone High Street are quite amusing - full of well-heeled types saying things - "only £15 for a T-shirt, that's such a bargain" :D . There's a good Oxfam bookshop there though.

The best things I've bought from charity shops have been old kids toys - potter's wheel, microscope, marble run etc  .

I buy toys for the kids if I see anything nice, got a great little wooden train set for £2.50 the other day :)

yeah, they are great for stuff for the kids.

I have togged myself out quite nicely for work from charity shops - just pop in have a look, be choosey, and every now and then you get something great - like the lovely grey pinstripe wool suit I got for a tenner, that looks like it was tailored for me.

I love looking at stuff like old butter dishes and ornaments, to remind me of my Nana and Auntie Enid :( :)

The ones in Camden High Street are quite good for some things and not so great for others.

I once bought a Fake (as in the brand) parka from camden oxfam for £40. I wore it for about a year and then sold it on ebay for £300.

Turns out that it had belonged to Noel Galagher and there was only one like it made. He regularly eats at a restaurant round the corner in Parkway so that made sense.

the guy that bought it from me was over the moon too. Very good news all round.

:)

I'm always on the look out for bits and pieces and wired stuff in charity shops

I've bought all sorts of things, most of the stuff in my house was aquired from somewhere, charity shops, car boot sales, urban recycling forum, freecycle or it's my parents old stuff and I cannot walk past a skip without looking in it.

my best finds, 50p for a handknitted wool aran jumper for my son. £3 for 2 kilos of wool/mohair blends that became a blanket for my daughter and a wooden bedframe for free from the shop i volunteered in because the manager injured herself on it 3 times in one day and wanted it out of the shop before it injured a customer.
