Channel 4 to axe Peep Show.

I do an excellent impression of him, but he is a cunt. I have to turn over if I hear his voice.

Jez having a mushroom party, Mark locked up ill in bed and doped up to the eyeballs. The potential for comedy here was immense but it just ended with Mark sitting on the toilet talking to his boss?

.....which i thought was the funniest thing i'd seen for a long time.

I seem to be one of the few that thought that Peep Show was pap. Unfunny American Pie/Office oh look how embarassing we can be humour.

Look I stuck my dick in a pie, how hilarious, look I wrote a nazi card to a work colleague oh the hilarity of it all.

Unfunny shite.

and Seinfeld, like all the big series, was written by a big team rather than the one man band or duos that dominant UK comedy, so they can sometimes last longer..
Seinfeld did have individual episodes written by a number of people, but it stayed as the comic vision of just two men in Jerry Seinfeld and especially Larry David. They had final say-so on stuff and two of the four characters, Jerry and George, were them anyway. Seinfeld was I think different in its longevity because it was about such tiny idiosyncracies in life, of which we can all name plenty. British sit-coms are much more particular about the situation and as a result can burn with incredible heat for a short time. Commissioning of series is less reliant on the sponsors here too, especially on the BBC obviously, and so there isn't the pressure to flog horses until they've been reincarnated and killed again that they have in the States. Witness the short runs of Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones, Blackadder and Father Ted.

Oh and to the person who compared Seinfeld to Friends, you couldn't be more wrong. Friends ripped off and watered down Seinfeld to an unbelievable degree, and of course then kidknapped the Channel 4 scheduallers' children for blackmail.

hey ; I've only just picked up on this show ; I watched the whole a series on a plane recently and it made the filght a breeze. It was the series where one of the characters urinates in someone's desk at work in one of the episodes.

Is this series three ? I picked up series 2 today but can't work out why Series 1 is not available.

Can someone fill me in ?

Play.com seems to think Series One is going to be reissued in July...

And Channel 4 confirmed that a series four would definitely go ahead despite disappointing ratings.

And don't forget Teachers. Another fine comedy which ran a little too long and ended up feeling a bit empty. With Teachers they seemed to fill in the gaps with mindless swearing, and on Shameless they seem to have used sex for the same purpose. What could they use in a new series of Peepshow to cover up lack of good script?

Let's hope they do axe Peepshow as I was disappointed with the last series. Jez having a mushroom party, Mark locked up ill in bed and doped up to the eyeballs. The potential for comedy here was immense but it just ended with Mark sitting on the toilet talking to his boss?

Yup, agree with you there. Teachers was good for series one but by series three it was on thin ice and they had to keep substituting decent text script for cheap visual gags. But like Peep Show it's a limited concept so it's going to run out of steam eventually because lead characters leave or have been exhausted. It's hard to keep up original humour or ideas, in fact it's just hard to keep good ideas going and formats quickly get old. You end up having to bring marginal characters into a main role and that doesn't work. Peep Show was pretty funny for a while but I found the last series was a bit, well, thin. Certainly better than a lot of the shite around though.

Liked the Nazi joke, Jeremky being painted in chocolate and refusing to be a black man having sex with his mum.

My liking for Peep Show hasn't lessened at all. I think they could easily make at least a couple more series, as it's not really about anything.
(And we know Seinfeld dragged that out successfully for fecking ever.)

While there'll be no more Peep Show, Mitchell and Webb have got something worthwhile heading to BBC2 later in the year. I was lucky enough to be able to watch some of their trial sketches at the Drill Hall last week, very funny stuff even though some of it has been recycled from the radio series.

They have recommissioned Peep Show, after having dropped it.
(Unless they have dropped it a second time.)
