Good call.

Well this is good news.

I was somewhat worried we were on a slow march to bombing Iran.

I'm intruiged as to the internal politics in Iran underlying this whole affair.

Probably to do with the fact that the sailors were captured during a big public holiday in Iran and thus the situation has only been resolved once all the various important religious and political types have got back to work.

Even the leader of the revolutionary guards was reportedly calling for the Britons to be released.

Iran is the bigger man!

how do you figure that one out?

If I stole your TV and then decided, after you negotiated with me for a few days, that I'll give it back to you as a 'gift' - would I be the bigger man?

Good news.

I still want to know which country was lying though!

well if the guy on newsnigt t'other day is to believed, then nieither

since the maritime border hasnt been surveyed properly for years, the admiralty were wrong to put up a map with a dirty great red line on it, as we cant be entirely certain where that line is and the place where they were captured was at the far end of where the boundary stretches to anyway

Possibly referring to USA's failure to return Irans people that they captured.

This was predicted at the start by one very clever urbanite who shall remain nameless*

*Ok I admit it, it was me

which has precisely feck all to do with the UK

would be like us holding the Iranian Ambassador hostage next time one of Iran's allies say one of the iranian backed groups in Palestine capture a british journalist.

I wouldn't put that past us or the USA tbh. ;)

'Liking' is pretty subjective really, and it's a reflection of the reduction in tension.

The futures traders will make ££s off it whatever, so they're unlikely to be bothered either way...

Well sure I'm justing aping what they say on the news "the markets responded" " the markets didn't approve" etc...

Oh dear it looks like a peaceful resolution isn't to the liking of the markets...

Oil falls after Iran says to free Britons

There will be plenty of people who will have made an absolute killing by shorting oil futures today.

Just remember trading is a zero sum game - just because a certain market is going down doesn't in any way mean that a load of mega rich trader types are having a bad day - some of them will be raking it in on the back of this news.

ON that tiscali article there's one guy saying that this would have leveraged the barrel price by about $5...that's a FAT assed margin if you've opted on 1 million barrels...

It's sloppy thinking from some quarters alas. They seem to think that 'the traders' like 'high prices' and any drop is a blow agains them. Sadly these same people tend to be politically opinionated, which is not good news for the rest of us.

yeah, someone on another thread said there should be an FP tactic called the 'Bolton Method' - do the exact opposite of anything John Bolton (ex-US UN ambassador) says...

It's amazing what you can achieve when you DON'T bomb the place.
Well seeing as no-one actually bombed anything, spoke about bombing or even threatened bombing, what a suprise when no bombing actually occurred

I'm all in favour of being critical, analytical and even cynical with regard to foreign policy, but just making up crap is beyond the pale old bean.

so how many of our speedboats has iran got now :D they put one in there military museum aprantly the guys who arrested them got medals :D

Pity you didn't post pictures of how the Iranians generally treat their own people when imprisoned... Or did you not want to post up pictures of torture...?

How about the way the US treats its own prisoners? Iran's not the only country to have a brutal penal system.

Bearded BASTARDS! How dare they try HUMILIATE US even further by this act of BLATANT SCHEMING and MANIPULATION ans double crossing

We wont settle until our boys are back in Tehran AND LOCKED UP IN An IRANIAN TERROR JAIL, Just like in the orignal script

;)

I'd held out one last hope that it might read "Iran to release prisoners into vat of boiling oil", but I was denied even this simple pleasure. WHERE THE FUCK'S MY FUCKING WAR?!
