Central London: Fish & Chip shop shortage

The Seashell on Lisson Grove near Marylebone Station is very good.

It's quite expensive to eat in the restaurant, but takeaway is very reasonable.

They do these huge fishcakes, that are in fact balls, and massive portions of chips.

Is Goulston street in Aldgate in zone 1? - Happy Valley (IIRC) chip shop is very nice, not the cheapest but really big portions, nicely cooked. In a scruffy old street by Petticoat market. Sit down or take away...

Happy Days......

As reffed above.......

Central? How about Central St, EC1?

Fish Central Tel: 020 72518253 - 151-153 Central Street, London, EC1V 8AP

They really are good, but a bit hidden away....

There's a decent one on Paul Street, north of Finsbury Sq. They do proper gravy and huge pies. Costs about a fiver for pie, chips and gravy which isn't bad considering the size of the portion.

I feel sorry for that big Greek chippy that was on the corner at Tottenham Court road by the Tube.

It was closed for ages after a fire, they done it all up and then it was compulsorily purchased for the new Crossrail station :(

They use frozen chips though.

Their pie fillings are brilliant though - pastry could be nicer, but I like 'em.

I remember going there now and again, several years back and then it just disappeared. Then relatively recently, I walked past and it had re-appeared, but then next time it had vanished again. I was wondering if I was hallucinating or sumat.

IMO this is the best fish and chip shop in Kings Cross. I prefer to the one in Leigh Street because the oils they use are more traditionally "fish-and-chip-shoppy" somehow. Unfortunately its been closed for ten days now and is being gutted. I hope its a refurbishment rather than the end of the road.

:( I miss my fish and chips.
