Celtic V Arsenal

How does the corporate nature of the Champions League effect qualifying matches more than anyother matches in it?

This crappy qualifying game (not pre qualifying you numpty) has much more riding on it than the group matches and because of the lack of seeding has thrown up two rather big teams.

I'm looking forward to this, certainly beats wathcing Celtic or Arsenal play some shite team from Israel.

The whole things a bag of shit designed to make sure Manure, Barca, Real or someone like that wins it, i.e. the teams who dominate the TV share and are marketable. I never said it was any worse than any other part of it. Couldn't care less whether you think I'm a numpty - you're the numpty for swallowing the convuluted and pointles annual exercise that is the champions league.

Here's a prediction for next may...

Big team with lots of money wins champions league shock. Probably from Spain or England.

Who gives a fuck? Might as well just get rid of the teams from Eastern Europe, Scotland, Wales, Scandanavia etc, etc....

Anyone with half a brain could work out that the champions league is one of the worst things that has happened to football and is hugely responsible for the stasis of the premier league.

I have equal interest in both stages really. But can see why some would not be fussed about watching it live.

Right so you have more interest in a series of games that on their own are inconclusive and which are seeded so that the bigger sides avoid each other as much as possible over a knock out leg that has two big clubs used to group stage football and the money that goes with it.

There is a fuck more riding on this than on group matches and it's between two big british clubs.

Why should you care so much if i have interest in something? I said i have EQUAL interest. Read the post properly.

yes we get it you don't like the tournament full stop, therefore your thoughts on the merits of any given stage of it are rather irrelevant.

also the removing of seeding from the qualifying games means that a few big clubs could see themselves out on their arse, hence actually opening things up quite a bit. Just use your head for a moment and think what a lack of CL group stage football and money would do to Celtic or Arsenal?

And i'm saying you're deluded if that's the case, I'm a neutral but I can see there is much more riding on this match tonight than the rather dull group stages, i'm simply asking you go explain your reasoning.

You think i'm deluded, no worries, can live with that. Now go and enjoy the game if its THAT big to ya.

You seem to have overlooked the fact that you used yourself as an example for your comment on neutrals in generals attitude, therefore you should give some reasoning behind it.

Like i said, a couple of posts in this thread have mentioned it isnt a big game to them, and i said i could understand that.

Whatever revol, i gave you my reason, and you continue on still. I'm not getting involved in a 10 page online argument about something like this.

money? i'm sorry but the amount of money riding on a match has never been high on my list of qualifications for what constitutes a 'big' match

Yeah, bothered. Might bring them in to the reach of Aston Villa or Hearts. *shrug*

and it's supposed to be a big game?

*Intro music*

TONIGHT, THESE TEAMS ARE PLAYING FOR THE MONEY THAT WILL GIVE THEM THE EDGE OVER VILLA AND MOTHERWELL AND VERY PROBABLY THE RIGHT TO GO OUT OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IN THE QUARTER FINALS TO VALENCIA... Over to Barry Venison who is pitchside...

I don't like it - yeah, well I suppose my thought's are irrelevent if you people do - Still don't think it's a big game. Which was my point. Well, actually it was strung out's point, that I agree with.

None of you can justify why it's a big game aside from the money. Which says it all really.

I'll leave it now. Safe in the knowledge I am right.... Will carry on listening to Morecambe vs Barnet... :D

It's a big game compared to any individual group stage match and it's big in that it involves two big british clubs who expect CL football.

Sure it's not the semi finals or even quarters but it's certainly a significant match for anyone interested in champions league and even Premiership (ENglish and Scottish) football.

of course people have different views you inane muppet, that's what makes discussion possible, the point of discussion is to lay out these views and test their logic.

That rules me out then.
