Celtic fans sing IRA songs through minutes silence on Sat

That's a nice wee song. how could it "well be seen as religiously bigotted and triumphalist?"

Because the last tow lines of the chorus were changed to...

And when the music stops, Fuck king billy and John Knox
Oh it's good to be a Roman Catholic.

That's just stupid and ignorant. Just like the stupid and ignorant Rangers stuff. No different at all. And I imagine the ones that sing it are as likely to be genuine catholics as the rangers ones are genuine protestants, few of who know one end of the Westminster Confession of Faith from the back of a cornflakes packet.

Falkirk have certainly not said anyone inside was singing or shouting during the silence.

You can see Falkirk fans looking at the septic fans and with Sky not showing them something must have been going on. Pity your mate wasn`t inside at the time eh.

Why don't you ask Falkirk, you can phone them seeing as you're so interested.

Well of course they were looking at that end, the chants came from behind that end.

My mate took no part in the singing but i'll pass on your concern.

Yet Sky wouldn`t show that end because nothing was going on?

Who knows, you're remarks are surely best aimed at the people who make those decisions? That you've already made your mind up makes such a request rather pointless though doesn't it?

St Patricks fenian band have what relevance to football?
Why don`t you go home is a football chant. Why the outrage about it?

Jesus, I said 'a cunt of a song', i'm not gonna defend it am I you fucking clown.

What does Billy Boys, Derry's Walls, build my gallows etc etc have to do with football? What do lots of songs sung at football, arguably most notably Celtic and Rangers games, have to do with football?

What songs do the genuine protestants sing which is on par with that rebel shite?

Might I respectfully suggest that you haven't grasped my point, which is that I doubt that many of those who call themselves protestants are familiar with the basic tenets of protestantism such as the Westminster Confession.

Going back to the earlier argument, the mistake Grit et al make is to equate the wearing of the poppy or honouring of the war dead with some kind of imperialist sympathies. WWI was the most colossal waste of life the planet has seen, at its height 13,000 soldiers dying per day. If I choose to wear a poppy to remember those fallen, it is not because I have any sympathy for the imperialist ambitions that caused Germany and Britain to go to war, but to remember the millions who died needlessly.

Its a good point and fair enough. Personally just find it really difficult to look at it that way because my thought process first goes to the fact that they were there to kill people so it should be reasonable to expect that some die.

To whoever it was a few pages ago, yup George Carlin could articulate things far better than I ever could :)

I really threw a match on this thread :D

That's not the point, Ireland didn't have a lack of food, as Connolly pointed out, ships laden with Irish produced food were sailing to Britain to market. The refusal to save lives was both murderous and deliberate.
look of course that export was disgraceful but the amount exported was insignificant in terms of the millions suffering .. the WHOLE potato harvest was lost

Yes, and what the blazing hell does that have to do with anything I've written?
because you wrote

" Exactly right there's no mention of the rights or wrongs, it's commemorating the dead. The idea that there should be any political message is appalling"

which shows and incredible lack of understanding of why millions of soldiers died and by whose order. it is NOT possible to be apolitical in this issue

Food exports actually increased during the famine. They had stopped exports in a previous famine but not that time.

i am not in any way defending the exports, which were disgusting. But the fact afaiu remains the crop failure was of a size that even using them wouldn't have done much to alleviate.
