Celtic fans sing IRA songs through minutes silence on Sat

Sorry, someone is actually undecided if the defeat of the nazis was a good thing (all other politics aside)? And that perosn is simultaneously trying to make a right-on point about the evils of the british empire? I've seen some confused posters on here in my time Grit but fucking hell...

Where is the confusion? two governments with two armies, blowing the shit out of other countries that dont agree with them.

Just to clarify, I'm not of the view that the Nazi's winning would have been a good thing. I'm just saying that its hard if not impossible to tell if the death and destruction caused by the UK/USA armies would have been more or less than the Nazi's if they had survived

as bad as the british empire was, the nazis were always going to be a hell of a lot worse and needed to be stopped, no matter the real intentions of some of the combatants

It's rare that I am in full agreement with you butchers, let's savour the moment shall we?

The British Empire was founded upon and intended to support trade (not necessarily free trade, mind), the nazis by something much, much more sinister.

Ignorant, disrespectful idiots.

Edited to add: Apparently they were singing a song about Aidan McAnespie - I'm not sure if that counts as an "IRA song" or not. It's still indefensible, nonetheless.

it does not justify celtic fans singing, but the gloating of british soldiers at some of their own attrocities in ireland is even worse, but i doubt that you would ever see it that way or even accept that it even happened

to boil it down, you are very selective in what you choose to be outraged about

Outraged, yes.

We're all commenting on a specific event that happened yesterday. Start a game of "But what about...?" if you like, I'm not interested.

How have you come to this conclusion?

come on mate, read some books, the british empire would have been a tea party compared to what the nazis had in store for the world, genocide of jews and disabled, subjugation of slavs just for a start

So its ok for your government to murder thousands but it wasnt for the Nazis?

Really whats the fucking difference? Its a government going out and causing destruction in its own interests.

Everyone thinks they are the "good guys" in a conflict, thats how they happen.

If you can't see the difference between the troubles and the final solution then you're an idiot.

I wasnt directly comparing them, I was pointing out that both the British Empire and the Nazi's used similar tactics to achieve the same goals.

How is remembering those killed in war in any way a commentary upon other nations?

You need to put yourself in the mindset of another nation, another people who have been at the receiving end of our campaigns and wars.

That is an attempt to establish moral equivalence through direct comparison.

So, how should one have a memorial, taking into account the views of other nations?
