Cat in pain

oh that's so sad :(

how long ago was the original op? can you argue that it wasn't done properly in the first place and they should put it right? pins shouldn't fall out should they?
About 3 years ago. The guy we got her off did a runner after the first op cos he didn't have a grand to pay for it, so we can't go back to the old vet's nor tell the new vet about it.
You'd think they must have done it wrong if the screws are coming out, but there's nowt I can do about it. I've just spoken to the Blue Cross and they're gonna speak to the vet and call me back. If they can't help I'll call Celia Hammond - she might do it cheaper I'm told.

Ask them again you mean? We'll try that I guess. Not sure how to approach it though.
You could make up some reason for a double check. Explain the situation again and add in "Oh I just thought that as it appears it wasn't done properly the first time, we might have some redress again that vet. Would you be able to help with that/provide legal advice under this cover?" even if you've no intention of contacting the old vet. It might be a way into pushing them into looking at your case again.

Whatever happens I hope you and puss are okay.

The Blue Cross say they'll do it for a large donation BUT they spoke to the vet who asked them to make clear to us that if they can't replace the plate cos the bone is too damaged, they may have to amputate. Frankly, this news has me in tears. I've seen dogs with three legs before and they seem to cope fine but never a cat. How would she cope? Cats love climbing and jumping on to things. She wouldn't be able to do that with a back leg missing. :( :( :(

it's not a certainty by any means, OU. it sounds like the vet is covering his arse, he won't know what the situation is until they do the op.

(((OU)))

((((ou's little cat))))

i used to see a 3 legged cat along the street where my friend lives. She was adorable and friendly. Not sure how she managed on the jumping thing but she got around fine and when she came rushing up to me to be petted she sort of sloped up on 3 legs like a peasant eagerly and humbly approaching me. :) Hope it goes okay. (((OU's cat)))

A back leg would be worse - I'm looking at her now and I'm wondering how she'd even manage to sit down. Poor thing. She's desperate to go outside - she has her nose to the crack at the bottom of the doors and is sniffing like a coke fiend

So sorry to hear this Orang, but if the worst does come to the worst, I've seen cats with three legs and they get along fine. Good news about the Blue Cross though.

My friend has a 3 legged cat, lost one of his backlegs due to a car accident and he manages fine, is as loopy aand as active as ever. I really hope there is a good outcome for you though.

Yes, well hopefully the donation won't be too large. The Blue Cross cut my cat's tail off as it was paralysed but that's slightly different. However, I have seen plenty of 3-legged cats that get around perfectly fine

According to one of May Kasahara's links, the loss of a foreleg is worse

Good news that the Blue Cross can help. Years ago the parents of one of my mates had a cat with 3 legs and it and he managed to do everything he would have done with 4 legs.

Her leg might be fine OU - try not to worry until it happens. And if it does, a back leg is easier for a cat to learn to do without. She'll need to relearn how to balance in certain situations, but she'll still have plenty of spring in the remaining leg and two good ones in front to land and steady herself with. She'll be fine. :)

What's the latest Orang?
Nothing new to report - I'm taking her to the Blue Cross on Monday
I have some pics of her with all four legs, just in case - I'll post them later

Were you not able to yesterday then? Have they agreed what your donation will be?
