Cat in pain

I seem to remember paying about £80 for an X ray - that was 9 or so years ago though.

Hope she gets better soon.

She seems much better now.
A couple of days ago she wouldn't move from here and looked like she was feeling very sorry for herself:

Now, she's come out and only miaowing grumpily in her usual way, not in a painful way:

Awww :(

I hate it when cats are in pain and they miaow so sadly - breaks my heart.

Glad to hear she's getting better, let's hope she stays well and happy :)

The paracetamol thing. Our vet told us to NEVER EVER give it to a dog. There seems to be 2 opposite camps whether you can or not.

Blimey, thanks for the heads-up. We have a new vet now, I'll ask them what they think

Gosh, I wonder what changed so she feels better now? Are you still taking her for an x-ray?

I hope it means she's in the clear now :)

Just rest and anti-inflammatories I guess.
Gonna take her for an x-ray next week, when we've got more money:)

No wonder she was in pain! She has a plate in her leg and the screws are coming loose - one has completely come loose and is floating about freely. She needs to have it removed ASAP, poor thing.:( I hope insurance pays out cos it's over £800. I just hope they don't refuse to pay cos they say having an old plate removed constitutes an existing injury. Dunno how we're gonna pay if they won't cover it:( Just paid £180 for the x-ray as well! Poor little mite - none of this is her fault, yet I'm worrying about money:rolleyes:

Surely the insurance will cover this?

well fingers crossed they will, but insurance companies are well known for backing out of claims on the flimsiest of pre-texts

I've no idea. Who are they?

Peoples' Dispensary for Sick Animals or something like that. They're like the Blue Cross. Don't know if they'll do it though. PDSA and Blue Cross normally do work for people who can't afford vets' bills (ie. elderly, unemployed etc).

Blue Cross is in Victoria. I think the nearest PDSA is in Putney

PS: I'm not sure what the situation is if people are working. I don't remember ever having to prove I was unemployed when I went to the Blue Cross when both of my cats got run over in the space of a month, but it may be worth getting someone who's unemployed to take the moggy and saying it's their cat :o

Highly unethical of course - but £800?

Oh them. Well, I wouldn't want to use resources marked for eldererly and unemployed pet owners. I can afford it, I suppose, just not all at once. Why can't vets accept payments in instalments?

Anyway, she's been dead affectionate and uncomplaining since she got back. Hasn't miaowed once. She's realised which side her bread's buttered on, I guess!

that's good. Nothing worse than having to get butter out of cat hair ;)

Hope she's alright.

Oh, and with the PDSA and Blue Cross, they welcome contributions, so you could always give a very generous contribution

It sounds like something similar as to what happned to my cat a few weeks ago.

She came in mowling her head off and with her tail down. She wan't able to walk properly and couldn't sit down.... she kind of fell instead bside of bum first.

It took her about 4 days for it to get better but she was quite bad for the first two.

My mum reckoned that she had probably fallen off something or that someone had hit her wish a sapde in the alotments behing us.

Either way - she's not as trusting of us at the moment so maybe it was the latter. She was abused as a kitten so she's always been a bit distant - but has got much more friendly.

Shit. Insurers won't pay out. The vet wants to keep her for £9 a day until we find the money. I can't even afford that, so I'm going to get her back now. Somehow I've got to find £800 very very soon, cos the op can't wait. I'll ask my parents but they might not have it, so we're looking at an exhorbitant bank loan. Arse!

Allegedly most insurers have an unspoken "refuse all claims first time" kinda thing going on so it might be worth another try.

((OU's poorly pussy))

If they won't pay out (the cheap fucks ) would it be possible to get a 0% interest credit card and pay on that, then cut up the card? Might be cheaper than a bank loan. Not sure how fast they arrive though as I've never had one.

You should try the PDSA. They should be more than happy to help you out if you can't afford it. IF it works anything like the red cross (I work for wheelchair loads) then the serice is completley free to all but the people that use them are mainly elderly/those on very low income. I'm sure they will be happy to help you if you give them a call, and you could give them a tidy donation for their help (not in a briabry way - it's how most of these carities operate).

Even if they say no it's worth asking surley, as I'm pretty sure their main concern would be the animal?

Edit.. here is a link.. http://www.pdsa.org.uk/eligibility.html phone them.

If they can't help you they will know of someone who can.

oh that's so sad :(

how long ago was the original op? can you argue that it wasn't done properly in the first place and they should put it right? pins shouldn't fall out should they?

Sorry to hear this OU, poor puss, and poor you.

I'd second the PDSA and making a sizable contribution, or finding a cheaper vet if at all poss. I know there are 2 vets round here, one of whom you need to be rockefeller to go to, and t'other who are actually affordable
