Cat Advice

thank you for the kitty compliments, you're too kind! i take all the credit obviously, and blush coyly in response!

well as predicted she just decided to relinquish one of her many beds around the place and has wandered off, so i wonder whether anyone will phone me soon

*bites fingernails*

eeek what now?

I put the collar on her friday, she went off friday afternoon and then came back late friday night and noone had rung. Boyf said, well that's not conclusive because we're feeding her and so encouraging her not to go home. So I agreed to not feed her for a few days. And yesterday she was round all day, being all whingy and hungry and breaking my heart, but I didn't feed her. She disapeared off around teatime, and didn't come back atall at night. I was quite worried about her.

She's just come back this morning, without collar, holding a petrified sparrow in her gob. So I picked the sparrow up, left her indoors and put the sparrow on a low roof to recover. And then let her go outside again if she liked. Two minutes later she back again with a baby swallow. So I do the same again but only I've kept her inside. She's now lying in the hall like a caged tigress miaowing and glaring at me. I tried to give her some biscuits and water, but she's ignoring them.....

Anyone speak Cat around here?

Wow, she's a bit of a hunter isn't she?

Sounds like she's trying to win favour/food with 'gifts' - and is annoyed that you've rejected them! :D

Interesting that the collar has gone - It was clearly marked with your phone number wasn't it? I guess she's either lost it (entirely possible) or you can expect a phonecall... fingers crossed!

If someone *does* call it could just as easily be someone else who is feeding her rather than the 'owner'.

heyho! :( :) she is a he apparently, and his owner rang this morning. he lives round the corner two streets down and apparently "dissapears for days on end sometimes" and "goes out every morning early and doesn't come back till late" and "we never see him". I explained he'd been hanging out at ours all the time, and she wasn't bothered, just asked whether we minded. So we exchanged phone numbers and addresses and that is that.

Not sure if I'm happy or sad really .... happy a mystery is solved and my not quite cat isn't in need and is actually a happy jammy wee bugger with two homes , but sad because i really love the silly little thing and had been a little hopeful that i had a cat (or he had a human).

But as boyf says (inbetween copious "i told you so's ofcourse), we have the both of both worlds, all the fun and joy of a cat, but none of the responsibilty. She's been round all day again anyway and her owner doesn't seem to mind , so I suppose it's all cool.

We've gave her (can't get used to calling her a him) a much better name though ! :D

Thanks for all your advice folks! you're a nice bunch, I'll try and contribute to some other threads now :p

what a happy ending :) glad his other people were cool about it.

I dunno if our cats speak to the other local cats, but we often get 2 or 3 that think it's perfectly fine to come and jump through open windows and eat the food and have a fuss and a lie on the rug.

cats are cool

Well, at least you have the peace of mind that he's not a stray.

We've had a little visitor the last couple of weeks, a cute little just-past-kitten that comes to the door every time I call our cats in for tea. He's been getting a bit bolder too.

Last night at 12.30, went to get our two in. He pops his head round the door, miows "Only me!" and dashes past me up the stairs. Then followed a comical chase round the flat as he has a bit of an explore, finishing with hiding under our bed and refusing to come out.

Our two lilly livered kitties just sat and watched from a distance.

Finally managed to coax him out and take him downstairs, only for him to sit outside the front door miowing for the next hour, whilst one of ours miowed back. Bet our neighbours love us!

I know he lives locally, as he had a collar a week ago (which he's since lost), he's just young and cheeky.

yeah, a bit bittersweet I guess - you're bound to want to have him as 'your own' (yes I know you can't 'own' a cat, they own you, etc :p ).

The upside is fewer worries and expenses - like going away for the weekend at short notice (i'm forever remembering about the cat at the last minute and having to make hasty arrangements for cat sitting - I'll be a terrible parent! )

But it is good news that the owner doesn't mind and you may find that he kind of adopts you eventually anyway (crack open the tuna ;) )

yeah, but at least the owners get lumbered with any future pet bills ;)

PS: What's HER new name?

= Definition of a human who thinks they own a cat.

:)

we called the cat PIPER, originally because wehen we first met him she was covered in oil and therefore her full name was PIPER ALPHA. (which at the time started an amusing conversation about naming pets after major disasters ..... Chernobyl, Hungerford, Lockerbie etc.... ) ahem. But anyway the name stuck as he does pipe up an awful lot and it felt appropriate.

but apparently he's called zeus. daft name for a cat i think :D

och well, you're all right about he best of both worlds. He's been sat in the porch all day, occasionally coming in for a fuss, looking luxuriant and right at home. I keep telling him he's rumbled and shouldn't really be here, but he doesn't seem to care. And now I also know that I can quite cheerfully ignore him when he tries to con me into feeding him, and relish the role of occasional treat giver!

tis all fine!

See what manipulating little buggers they are? He had a home and food source available all along and yet tricked you into thinking he was starving... :D
