I wouldn't recognise one of their records if it slapped me in the face. One of them was round our flat the other week though so i thought I'd name drop.:p

Pah thats nothing, I cooked Fruitbat a full on veggie Sunday dinner a few months back.

Really?
How come?

This is starting to look like a pissing contest... :D

Got thrown out of a pub once after insisting with some mates that the karaoke song we wanted was a Carter USM one (damned if I can remember which). Some how our raucous rendition caused people to want to beat each other up and a fight started amongst the audience. And we got thrown out as a consequence.

Some indie band ('Little Man Tate') used our flat to film their video, he was their 'guest star.'

You can see it on MySpace. It's a bit poor IMO.

that one where they dress up as coppers?

put ministry as a poll option and I'll vote for it

I'm quite impressed that I thought of that as the alternative option for my poll in my lager addled state. I almost wish I'd voted for it myself

I wanted to vote for that option tooo ( one of my favourite tracks) but I also wanted to show my appreciation for Carter.

I used to enjoy seeing them at The Venue, Fordham Park, the Amersham Arms* (which had really good comedy/live music nights around '89-'91.... but they got old quite quickly tbh.

When I hear them now it reminds me of happy times though.

*At least I think I saw them at the AA... tbh.. that whole era is a bit hazy and it never occurred to me that anyone would end up famous... :D

I can't believe people are defending them. Listen to it with fresh ears, people, take off the nostalgia-tinted specs...

The early 90s was a dreadful time for music. Ned's Atomic Dustbin. Swervedriver. The Wonder Stuff. Shoegazing................

firstly; i listened to 101 damnations the other day - it holds up well IMO - yeah the sound is off its time but so is public enemy - that doesn't make it a bad thing

secondly swervedriver were a decent band.

thirdly; the senseless things, midway still and the god machine alone mean that the early 90s were saved - not even mega city four could distract from that

Carter does sound dated but the lyrics are great!!

Yep, to be fair you've given 3 examples of poor early nineties bands. Carter are not one of them though. And if anyone ever says Pop Will Eat Itself were shite then I will murder them to death.

I'll give you those - even Swervedriver don't escape being crap even though Son Of Mustang Ford is a solid gold classic.

I was listening to Swervedriver last week
I liked their first song and a song off their second EP.
A friend of mine at college dated the singer. She was always dating people in minority famous indie bands. No idea how she kept it up because she lived so far from London. Very weird.

On topic. I liked sheriff fatman. I don't think I could sit through the whole debut, but there would be more chance of it than any other of their releases. I played with the fruit bat Carter though and he was the loveliest man.
