Carol Singing in Parliament Square

should have known you'd be along sooner or later. while some of those might be good questions, none of them are what chuck has actually asked are they. all he's done is made his disdain absolutely clear whilst not actually saying why, nor making any suggestions for something better or more efficient.

Wish I could make this, but I can't :( - The Red Lion just down whitehall is a pretty good pub, btw :)

Bluestreak and anyone else who fancies it - meet in the Red Lion for a quick pint (what am I saying????!! - after last night too  ) beforehand?

I should have thought our charming high-minded peaceful naivetie is one of the things in our favour, should anything disappointing occur.

It's a carol service! A demonstration of love and hope and joy and religious tolerance! We are singing carols, outside the seat of democracy. It is a lovely thing to do.

Goodwill to all men. :)

I think Chuck is asking some fairly pertinent practical questions here

No Chuck isn't asking pertinent questions but is indulging in the typical behaviour of some urbanites of poo pooing anything that tries to do something worthwhile.

Don't know what that's supposed to mean - why don't you calm down? I'm afraid chuck did bring up the question of what practial measures in support of anyone arrested have been taken and the wider one of whether this was part of the organisers intentions. You replied to these posts ignoring them, so i can anly assume that you missed them or do not know. Maybe someone more informed does?

Oh and if anyone wants me to print off the carols for them, let me know -
I have a big stack of recycled paper kindly supplied by my company :)

Since when have you been the judge of pertinence groucho? Surely it makes some sense to you that before any action is carried out there is some form of risk assessment as to whether or not the objective would be achieved and what the damage might be? Aside form the Editor and Bluestreak (who in my mind is winging it anyway) I still haven't seen what is hoped to be gained.

I am not against mass arrests when a campaign can be built but my point is that a) this is a small protest and b) if the idea is to get everyone arrested shouldn't people be briefed about what to expect C) wouldn't the Xmas and New Year break reduce the possibility of any solidarity and support and d0 what does this protest hope to achieve?

To be honest if there aren't any arrests I don't think that singing Xmas Carols is going to blow a hole in this very draconian legislation.

Yes, I must have 'skimmed' the post a bit too quickly soz.
Thanks for that, but it's tobyjug who really should be doing the apologising for his unpleasant attack...

I was specific in what I quoted because without parliament sitting the other reasons are somewhat ethereal.
Does the law specify that parliament has to be sitting for protests to be disallowed? Yes or no.

So you don't think raising awareness of the legislation with an action designed to highlight how ridicuous the law is - and getting it all over the national news - is worth doing then?

I doubt there will be arrests and no it won't, on its own, blow a hole through the legislation. BUT it has and will make a point in a way that will be grasped by a wider body of people than your usual protest.

If you think the body of people around Brian Haw are not a little aware of some of the isues you raise you haven't been paying too much attention to events on Parly Square over the past couple of years.

I wish the carol singing all the very best, and still have half a mind to turn up even though I hate carols (especially the Christian ones)

I think the question has to be at what price and (I know this is another question) have the protesters bought into it. I have been on many a demo when someone has said charge and stayed at the back to do the news interviews on how brutal the police were etc.

Well don't let me deter you. In fact I would encourage you ,as you are the one who is assuring people that arrests are unlikely, that you should go just in case there are and be honest.Better to be on the bus than off it.

The organisers have gone out of their way to make it plain to anyone who takes part that they are risking arrest.

jamcam seems to have stopped.
