Carnival Magic Moments

Saw Duke Vin on Gaz's set the year before last, pretty sprightly still and a proper sound system legend. I get a bit bored of Gaz's thing but he does it well.

Favourite times have always been Sunday revive / Mondays digital dubwise at Aba-Shanti-I or shuttling between Channel One and Jah Observer.

I did play tunes on the Caribbean Banana float in 1999 with Brighton's "Positive Sound System". The local kids from the float's dance crew were all up for a go on the mic and one 8 year old tore the place up, getting huge crowds jumping and screaming to his lyrics and performance.

Also remember passing by Gladdy Wax one time when the Tighten Up crew were on the decks. Mr Brown (Steve) dropped Sugar Minott's "Hard Time Pressure" and the place erupted.

Missing carnival for the first time in about 20 years 'cos we'll be at Festinho.

I remember well the Shock Sound System playing house for the first time at Carnival in 1989. Took too much acid and spent hours trying to find my way home.

It seemed a real shame last year that even on All Saints, the sounds were neutered. I want fat bass! I want fat spliffs!

Picked up Time Out today which has a little pull-out, incl' sufficient sound system map, for Carnival.

Am really looking forward to it, have been on hols the last 2 weeks so am on a maximum chill too.

timing! (me too - though back at work today and tomorrow - doesnt really count though - pretending im still away!)

Not back in until next Wed myself, + am getting some fresh erb delivered in about 5 mins

Got some wonderful Jacob Miller playing at the moment, for the sake of the neighbours I had to turn down the base for Tenement Yard, jeez that track bursts out some baseline.

Been looking at some old Carnival photos too.

anyone on the Victoria line be warned that it is closed this weekend! typical. Getting there can be a right mission sometimes... Running on Monday though I think

Well a very interesting carnival for me (please excuse drunk post that will follow)
went on my own (mates prang from friday)
aba shanti not there - turned up late :D police didnt let crew in to set up :cunts:
not up for a mission so went to goood times for ooold times sake - rain made it possible to get infront of the bus for the first time in a decade
good times 30th anniversary at carnival (1980-2010)
a nice bottle of greek spirits in my pocket
jumped around like a wild cannon - scared away a few peeps in the process :D
big tune of the day surprisingly bonkers/ dizzee - i now realise its a free part tune (get mine for free)
not the rare groove selection i remember for GT, lots more house and a good dose of DnB won me over
ears ringing, but dubfix not fulfilled so going back on monday for two days for the first time ever - hope mates recovered by then!
sat by canal to a lovely sunset before heading home
PLUS had a lovely chat on tube home with jamaican/irish/italian girl who made me fall in love with london anew: we're all in it together
love carnival :tick:

can anyone remember the year that this was the tune?
meat beat manifesto - radio babylon

no, but finnly enough i posted this on a tuen id thread not the other day
if i might add: CCCCCCCCCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
always deserves playing twice (too short)
:clears throat:
thanks

Nice one Ska :)

In the middle of a pre carnival party here at the mo', got some of the family here and my missus is cooking up a storm, with a wonderful mix of calypso/reggae/soul jazz playing.

Am looking forward to tomorrow.

beautifull :)
was thinking today - love it when families go to carnival - not an easy thing - even ms invita is a bit short to handle the crowds and has a tough time of it - its all about friends and family in the streets though - saw a couple struggling today - its not an easy environment for sure (mashed scallys like me dont help - even when i offer spurious liquids from anonymous bottles :hmm:)

have a great evening, and a lovely bhmonday - forecast tommmorow:

then one year, this was the tune that sounded stupendous reverberating between the rows of houses

not that version, for sure
anyone?
ska?

ha ha at yesterday
normal service resumed:
aba shanti woke up on time!
gravity levels back to normal
no nonsense dizzee bonkers
greek spirits still running!
funny moment: indian guy selling dub vinyls, waving them in the air by speaker stack, couldnt resist: i tickled him in the arm pit :D - ended up with a free disciples/earl 16 12" + contact!
companeros got stuck on broken tube at maida vale though which was shit

like that mix above gavman - im sure the year that missy blew up she was all over carnival - 2001?

Wonderful, just wonderful, still the best day out in London IMO. Spent most of it at Jah Observer which had a great vibe going and the sun was shining.

Just great.
