Care of new dreads...

Actually, having spiders in your dreadlocks isn't necessarily a bad thing. when the spiders burrow into your head to lay their eggs they will need something to eat:) to give them sustenance for their egg-laying endeavours so they may eat some of the scalp maggots that live on dreadlock-wearers' heads.

No offence to anyone with dreads, but I'm pretty sure they stink. You're not allowed to wash them are you?

My ex boyfriend had dreads - you can't wash them, but they don't smell. Believe me, if they had I would have told him to cut them off. :D

Hmmm... a fundamental contradiction methinks:confused:

To disprove this hypothesis simply substitute the words 'feet' or 'pants' for 'dreads' in the above statement.:)

Fair enough if you had dreaded pubes snuggling in a sweaty crotch or if hair had sweat glands like feet, but they're hardly the same are they?

and YOU CAN WASH THEM.

Ive just had a shower and washed my dreads...i wash my hair every 3 days...you're meant to do it that often anyway! it takes ages to dry so im sat at my desk on the comp with my small fan heater perched alongside my comp blitzing my locks with warm air cos i have to go out in a bit. :)

I've never understood why people wash their hair every day or more than once a week. It's not as if hair gets dirty in the normal run of things (unless you work in a very dirty environment of course). Seems silly to wash the natural oils out of your hair just to use a conditioner to put them back again.

yes but i work in a small chinese restaurant and the smells get EVERYWHERE! Anyway, its no big chore...i never feel 100% clean unless everything has been lathered up. ;)

Sorry for this derail LD but the other day I saw a woman in Doncaster with a unidread:eek:
She was waiting at a bus stop as was at least 70 years old. She had a single dread (it looked like it had been ironed flat) and it hung from the back of her head , right down to the ground and there was about another 3 or 4 inches turned over and pinned up at the bottom.
I think that her hair must never, ever have been cut. The odd thing was that apart from the dread she just looked like an ordinary sort of Doncaster pensioner.

Good luck with yours by the way.:)

I do mine about once a week or so, let's not go mad here.

I do mine about three or four times a year. I like it that way. then you get lots of dirty water coming out and they look so lovely and clean afterwards. Makes me happy...

Could this have been a Polish Plait?

A bit like a single large dread, but nasty :(

The Polish plait usually results from deficient hair care. Uncombed, greasy hair becomes irreversibly entangled, forming a matted, malodorous and encrusted or sticky moist mass. It may be caused by or accompanied with lice infestation (pediculosis) and lead to inflammation of the scalp. The Polish plait is typically a (sometimes large) head of hair, made of a hard impenetrable mass of keratin fibers permanently cemented together with dried pus, blood, old lice egg-casings and dirt. The disease may be easily prevented by standard hygienic practices, such as washing and combing of the hair. Treatment involves cutting the affected hair.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!:D

But doesn't make the rest of humanity quite so 'happy' as you shall discover if you read on>>>

Dirty water-related diseases are a growing human tragedy, killing more than 5 million people each year - 10 times the number of people killed in wars. About 2.3 billion people suffer from diseases linked to dirty water. Some 60% of all infant mortality worldwide is linked to infectious and parasitic diseases, most of them water-related.

Adverse human health effects from dirty water can be divided into four main categories:
Water-borne diseases
Those caused by water that has been contaminated by human, animal, or chemical wastes.

(i.e. 'dreadlock water')

Water-borne diseases include cholera, typhoid, bacillary disentry, polio, meningitis, hepatitis A and E and diarrhoea, among others. These are diseases caused by dirty water from dreads, and most can be prevented by those afflicted with dreadlock-osis adopting a more presentable haircut.

The Polish Plait which, as is clear, is not the same thing as dreads.

You're starting to come across as worryingly obsessive. Were you frightened by a rastafarian while you were a baby?

No cut and paste odysseys, please.

Especially weirdly-obsessives ones about totally irrelevant dread-related conditions elsewhere.

haha!! for fucks' sake, what price free speech eh? what price a sense of humour??

sad that genuine posts from BNP members last longer than an obviously humorous piss take designed to wind up defensive morons and (i would have thought) given other more enlightened types a wry and ironic chuckle.:(

I'm not sure what this woman had but she didn't look as if her head was sore or she had lice or anything:confused: She just looked very ordinary apart from this felted hair that was longer than she was tall:confused:
It made a change from a nice little perm though.:)

I think i'd rather have a perm.

That woman's hair just sounds repulsive. I suspect she was a nutter though.
