What amazes me is that the same people (here at least) are as viciously partisan as the next man when it comes to rugby, and would always support a Welsh region against an English side, but appear to think that different rules apply when the ball becomes rounder. One of the feeble excuses frequently wheeled out is that they are able to see the top Welsh players play regularly at premiership clubs, conveniently forgetting that for at least the last few seasons the single biggest supplier of Welsh talent (word used loosely, I know) to the national side has been Cardiff.

It fucks me right off, though I do often wonder how quickly the Man U. and Liverpool shirts would begin to collect mothballs if the Bluebirds ever got up to the Prem. I can imagine them now whining on about how they were on the Grange End in 91 when in fact they were sitting there with their feet up in front of PremPlus watching whatever distant franchise they had nailed their flags to the mast of.

The other even more horrifying alternative is that home seating in Ninian Park or the new Leckwith Stadium would fill up on matchday with Welsh 'supporters' of Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal/Man U (delete as appropriate) finally able to watch 'their' team live a stone's throw from their homes.

<shudders>

See 'Wigan Athletic' for further details about this.

Bunch of cunts. I hate Wigan:mad:

In what sense? That most people in Wigan are partisan about supporting Wigan at rugby but then dno't support the wigan team and instead choose to support man u/liverpool etc? But why does that make you hate the Wigan team?

I've never understood why chest-beating Welsh nationalist-types turn out to the number one fans of Premiership teams, myself.

Nothing wrong with having a 'big' second team (fair enough in the absence of any Welsh Premiership teams), but I just don't get how you can have an English team as your main team if you're always banging on about being Welsh.

might have been a mistake to show up here chief...

Nah, I've been looking forward to this game, listening on the radio.

Obviously I want Spurs to win but I also like a good game and some banter (s'app'ning steve, Barry and Reg) from Cardiff have been providing it via text message from the game.

Just for the same reason as outlined below, that I grew up in Wigan (but family from Blackpool, hence I ended up a Blackpool fan) - I used to watch Latics with about 1200 on springfield park, and even when they started winning promotion not that many turned up. As soon as they got in the Prem, the ground started selling out, with the same people who used to actually laugh at me for bothering to go to watch 'a load of shite' getting season tickets and declaring themselves 'Wigan till they die'

The club was on the verge of extinction, in fact two teams in Wigan have gone out of business because of apathy towards football (inc ex league side Wigan Borough) and I just cannot stand the slimey glory hunting cunts who make up about 60/70% of the fanbase.

I don't hate the team, but I really will chuckle the day they go down and all the 'wigan till they die-ers' go back to the couch and put on their faded Liverpool and Utd replica shirts.

I know a couple of died in the wool Wigan fans who share my view (apart from the relegation bit obviously) It makes me spit that I know more about the history and the players of the last 15 yrs from Wigan than 70% of their own fans.

Yeah, from the angle of being an England fan and supporter of a middling EPL team, this has always annoyed me too. I can't stand these people, Irish, Welsh, whatever who are totally ABE and then go and support Liverpool or Man U. It really irritates me...

It is not all in vain though, one mate is a swan and a massive wales fan, when I first met him, he had two teams, man u and swansea, one time i had a rant about this and then not long after he started following swansea exclusively, so at least my blitherings got through to someone...

no, just the opposite - in fact there isn't much difference between the rugby and football crowds and in fact the visit of a 'big' side like Chelsea will draw more to the JJB than say, the derby with St Helens in the rugby. I have no beef with the rugby fans at all.

Fair dos...

Fair enough tangerine - I actually think their support is pretty pathetic even with all this premiership success etc...

Compared to what it was it is miraculous! I went to a couple of Wigan games in the early 90s with 3 figure crowds - they weren't even in the bottom division irc. When the fuck does that happen, I don't think we've ever had one, as I reckon havn't most teams.

You'll notice that the attendance fluctuate massively depending on who they are playing too.

0-0. The twat on the radio concedes that City had the best chances.
Time to start my efforts to get a ticket for the replay....

I thought cardiff dominated other than about the last 15-20 minutes. if they had taken their chances they would have won.

hard to see you getting a result at spuds though

Was anyone actually hurt?

The twat on BBC London radio made it sound like someone had been let loose with an AK47.

Not sure, Five Live mentoned it a few times and commented that the flare had been thrown towards the Spurs lot and then put out.... so I doubt anyone was hurt

Flares I ask you... who do you Cardiff fans think you are... its like being in Italy or somefink;)

Same ol' Welshies,always cheating :D ;)

Wasn't looking forward to todays game. I just knew that we wouldn't play all that well, and we didn't. I even fell asleep during the second half. Bring on the replay,I have slightly higher hopes for the home game.

That's a really annoying result ... I'm always happy when Tottenham** get beaten .... and I'm one of the relatively few footy lovers who don't seem to have much against Cardiff, either ....

(**Tottenham : their true, official name, except to those who support them or collaborate with them! ;) )

I fear a tonking though for Cardiff at 'Spurs' <--- word only used by twats :p )

:(

Why the distinction

I call Preston, North End or Wigan, Latics - just because they are our rivals I don't see the need to address them formally. Why does 'Spurs' cause so much rancour?

Not criticising just curious.

As someone who was there let me tell you that the flare was alight for ages in the hand of the fan who lit it and when it obvioulsy got to hot to handle was thrown into the no man's land netween the fans and extinguished by a plod. this was AFTER about 200 of Tottenham's boys had left the ground and invited city's crew outside for a scrap, an invitation that was declined, but I don't see you criticising spuds actions, as per fucking usual trouble at a Cardiff game and it all gets blamed on us!
