As Dave Jones said, it's good business. Its what we do with the 5mil that counts.

Still a midtable finish for us will do me fine! :)

Do you think Dave Jones will get to see any of the 5 mil or will "unforeseen stadium costs" swallow it up?

I bet Robbie was terrified to meet his first member of the soul crew.
Well the lad is wearing a burburry cap and is the age most of them seem to be these days.

I don't think Robbie will cut it in the Championship. Its a much more physical game and less finnese than the Prem.

Plus at Cardiff we don't bother with that style of play known as creating chances for the strikers. Instead we prefer our wingers to piss about in midfield thereby forcing the strikers to go out on the wing and put crosses into defenders and midfielders that have come forward to fill the gap. This style may not suit Robbie's goal scoring abilities.

If all else fails he's good for free kicks on the edge of the area and penalties.

Point of order there boss, and as a card-carrying Guardinista antithesis of all things hoolie: technically the young Man Yoo-supporting chancer's cap is Aquascutum, I think? 30 (yikes!) years of traipsing round following these losers (the team, not the fans) has made me sad enough to be able to discern these vital sartorial nuances. I put it to you that you are a better man than I.

Strangely I am excited, merely by the signing of fowler, about our chances for the new season. At the age of 39 this means I am either extremely immature, or have no memory of anything that has ever happened in the above-referenced 30 years of glorious alchohol-fuelled under- /
non-achievement.

Bring it on!

Me too. Can't quite put my finger on why, it's not Fowler, I reckon he'll get injured early on in this division. Just a gut feeling--and I'm normally the most pessimistic of City fans--that we'll go up as Champions.

Evening Joe. Like your "not only good, we'll win the fucker and all" flourish (clearly I paraphrase your more eloquent point).

Where I work (in Llundain) there's this bloke, right. Gooner. Home and away every game for the last 20 years. £885 for his ST (just for home games), on his (probably) 20k wages. Every game. Loves football, knows football, doesn't have a girlfriend as Arsenal come first for him, right? We all know people like that down NP or wherever we watch our football.

me and him are proper (work footy) mates as we both really follow our side (you know like lots of people just follow a glamour team on telly and say they really support them yet they've never been, classic of the type being the sometime contributor to u75 who lives in the north of Ireland, supports Man Utd, never goes) anyway my point is, my mate KNOWS his football and suffers every week

Every day since the end of last season he goes past my desk 4 times a day, looks up and just goes

"Top of the league 11 weeks, I can't believe you finished bottom half"

Thing is, I can't argue, I can't believe it either.

Clearly Fowler could be class at this level and won't go missing for 3 months like Chops did (well, unless he's injured, for 9 months)

What's the word on Rae and McLean, my mate in Scotland told me they're shite, like

Well PC, my theory, when I stop to think about it, is that modern footie results are decided in the boardroom and council chambers, not on the pitch. So we just couldn't go up last year, because Ninian isn't a Premiership ground, but now that the new stadium is definite, there's no obstacle. Plus the fact that Cardiff is a bit of a boomtown these days and therefore needs a top-flight club.

bluebirds 18/1 with an 18 point start (handicap betting) with Ladbrokes to win championship!!! Fill yer boots.

Stick to the Film and TV forum mate!

Does anyone know when we find out the name of our new stadium?

I just saw the corporate sponsors thread and it made me wonder....

*prays it isn't the CostCo stadium or some other shite*

When Sam Hammam finds someone to buy the name. He's got the naming rights I believe as part of his golden handshake. He won't care what name it is but will go for the most cash.

I'm living in fear on that one.
It's going to be something hideous though. That's a guarantee in the $$$Nu-Football$$$ era.

Makes me wish I’d bought those shares when I had the chance. Only I didn’t have a grand spare then whereas now I do its too late.

There is definately money to be made in owning a bit of CCFC if DJ wants in on the action.

I like this sort of deal as it means the manager's incentive to do well isn't just to have a better contact negotiation position with other clubs based on performance. Instead if we do well he does well well financially too. Thats a big incentive.

Nah, it was a comment on ya knowledge of what constitutes value for money at the bookies. Ya obviously know more about visual media than the prospects of Cardiff City this season!:D

Aye Marius it is a big incentive for Jonesy. Maybe he should get out there and bang a few in himself!

Weirdly enough I am now excited about this season, will I never learn?!?!

A lovely sunny day for a friendly and a day where I did something I hadn’t done for over 18 years. I paid on the gate. This resulted in my friend and I standing on the Bob Bank Terrace as everywhere else was restricted view or full. Unfortunately this now means that I have set myself the challenge of sitting in the spar family stand before Ninian Park is torn down. That will mean have sat or stood in every part of the stadium before its demolished.

The first thing that struck me was the unusually high number of photographers present until I remembered that Robbie Fowler was due to play his first Ninian Park game. He got a warm reception as he came out onto the pitch which he seemed to appreciate.

The squad numbers were called but the new announcer seemed to be having a problem counting from one to 10 ass he missed number 8 and went from 7 straight to 9. Oh he is saving Robbie for last. I hope he isn’t going to do that every game my friend was heard to say when he announced the squad the second time the same way. We don’t want to keep giving him star treatment and kissing his arse all season long or the other players will get pissed off. I had to agree. The new announcer was courtesy of Kiss FM who seem to have done a sponsorship deal with the club. Many were the cries of “He’s rubbish, bring back Ali”.

So the game begins and FC Twente seem to do a good job of chasing down our players so that they have little time on the ball. I wondered how long they would keep it up and they kept it up pretty much all game. FC Twente passed the ball around well in their own half and around the midfield but went to pieces whenever they got near Cardiff’s box or corners. Cardiff’s play by comparison wasn’t as smooth (because of the constant pressure on the ball) but had more evidence of purpose about it. When Cardiff went for the tackles they invariably won them more times than not and the dutch players went down like sacks of potatoes and the merest nudge more often than not.

At 25 minutes a Cardiff substitution was announced. Someone had taken a small knock and so we assumed it would be them but to everyone’s short lived surprise it was Fowler. They must have booked more press interviews for him than could be handled without an extra 65 minutes I guess. Although its claimed he strained his thigh he didn’t exactly limp off.

Warren Feeny came on in his stead and not shortly after slots in a lovely goal from the left that flies clear across the goal and into the opposite side of the net. The goal came from a Sinclair freekick that curled straight to Feeney that had burst past his markers and if memory serves me correct was struck mid air first time. My first thought was oh no Sinclair’s freekick has missed the goal by miles but then I realised it was a set play. If they have been practicing that as a set play well they nailed it on the day.

To be honest the rest of the game was pretty much a no contest with Twente still chasing down the ball but not really that enthusiastic about doing anything with it once they had it and Cardiff pretty much settled back deep to defend their goal lead. There was a bit of a clash in the FC Twente goal mouth second half that had to be calmed down before punches were thrown but all in all that was the most exciting thing about the second half.

Man of the match wasn’t announced. No doubt as the sponsors will have wanted to meet the man who was only on for 25 minutes. For me though man of the match was Trevor Sinclair who looks to have been a great signing for us. He never stopped putting in full effort, was pacey with a great little flick ons with his head that found the player he wanted. The added bonus to our past picks for his position is that he is strong and by no means shy of going into a hard tackle and winning it. In fact he put in quite a number of really good tackles.

Ross Turnbull looked good in goal but then he never really had anything to do. Time will tell if we will regret that we gave Alexander his marching orders.

Rae gave a good performance too so it does look that we might just have a stronger squad this season afterall.

Attendance was 8k something which is amazingly good for a pre-season friendly. If you removed all the fans with newly acquired kits with Fowler on the back the total would probably dropped to 4k. I’d considered it myself but I’m tempted to be different and get a Sinclair shirt.

Great report Marius - I've posted it up on the CCFC section of urban75. Hope that's OK!

:D :D :D

I'm not allowed. We always lose when I take my camera so I've been banned. :(
Plus my zoom aint up to the task.

As promised, I'm slowly getting around to redesigning the Cardiff City section, and things are starting to look a lot better. I've redesigned the home and reports homepages and started to use a new template for match reports.

One thing. When the chuffing 'eck did we lose to Rochdale 1-0 away? I thought it was in 1994, but I'm, buggered if I can find the date (or any web resource going that far back). Any ideas?
