Capitalists solution : Work for Free!

Its disgusting but it is the way everything is going these days. You only have to look at welfare reform where people will be working for £1 .60 odd for mulitnationals to see that

The rich have finally come round to the idea of welfare measures now that the proceeds are overwhelmingly going to them.

BA union backs pay cut for pilots

Pilots at British Airways (BA) have been asked by their own trade union negotiators to accept a pay cut and work longer hours.

The British Airline Pilots' Association (Balpa) says in exchange the pilots may be given shares in the airline which they can sell after three years.

The aim is to save the struggling airline £26m a year in running costs.

Pilots currently earn between £24,000 and £110,00 a year, with an average of about £80,000.

78 voluntary redundancies but no compulsory redundancies.

In exchange the pilots will be given, from June 2011, shares worth £13m if certain "company targets" are met.

The airline industry is in a world of hurt right now. Too much capacity, very high fuel costs and decreasing passenger miles. One senior pilot for a US carrier I heard speak pointed out that the frequent flier programs that were set up in happier times now means many of their seats have very low revenue generating potential and that until until the coming wave of bankruptcies is over airlines will not be making any money for a while.

Well it seems the result of the ballot for strike action will be anounced today.

I reckon they'll vote in favour of the strike, I have friends who work for BA and they are all saying that they've had enough.

I know BA are in the shit through managerial incompetance but surely if they allow this strike to go ahead it'll just be another nail in the coffin.

BA need to get their staff back on board otherwise they're a gonner I reckon.

On a more selfish note I have a flight booked over New Year and I'll be mighty pissed if that gets cancelled. :(
