Canon Powershot G9

hiccup

King of the Vagabonds
Hello hello

I've been using a Pentax S5Z compact digital for the last couple of years, and it's been great, but I miss my film SLR. Just saw the press release for this new Canon:

And thought it looked rather nifty. I love the idea of the manual controls, silly amount of megapixels, 6x zoom and all the other bells and whistles, but in a relatively small box. Carrying around a full-size dSLR is a pain.

Has anyone used one of the Canon G series? Any opinions?

The older models (the G3 and G5 in particular) always seemed to get good reviews from the people that had them.

f/2.8 is a little disappointing (the G5 had an f/2.0 lens).

It's really really annoying that the camera's zoom starts at 35mm rather than a more useful 24-28mm.

I'll stick with my smaller, more versatile Ricoh GX100 for now. That dies RAW too.
