Canon Announce new 80D

Seems that there has been quite a big improvement in dynamic range and ISO performance. Nice. :)
Apparently the video is quite poor too. Canon on a different strategy to their rivals it seems.
Not sure about that. It's just lacking a few features that people expect on a modern video camera. The dual-pixel auto-focus still works amazingly well though, and has been given a slight improvement.

Edit: It now has a headphone jack too.

If you're into video then Panasonic, Sony, and even Samsung have made big leaps in picture quality over the past few years. The 70d type stuff looks pants in comparison. I suspect Canon are choosing to protect their pro range.

Plus possibly pushing the EOS C range (and associated "cinematic" optics) at more video-inclined pros, and the D range, as you indicate, at picture pros.

Yes, that's what I had in mind. I expect they will hope to wow with a big 5D addition for the hybrid market (with 4k).

Well they totally didn't wow with their 5D! The video options look seriously underwhelming. I think Canon has abandoned the entry-level end of the video market. Hard to tell whether that's a winning strategy for them or not. Got a feeling marketing students may be studying this DSLR era on future degree courses.
