Canary Wharf, photography permit

Well, you did start by saying

whilst it's probable that all of the land is technically private property of the landlord

:D

According to a formal petition recently presented by Canary Wharf plc to the House of Commons against the Crossrail Bill (PDF, Text)

It is envisaged that rights of way would be acquired [for Crossrail] over, among others Westferry Circus, West India Avenue, Trafalgar Way, Cabot Square, North Colonnade, Canada Square, Churchill Place and Cartier Circle. These are some of the main roads within the Canary Wharf Estate, which are privately owned and have been built and maintained by the petitioners to a high standard in order to preserve and enhance the amenity of the Estate for its occupiers

which would place all of the roads round Waitrose in the private ownership of Canary Whaf, not L.B. Tower Hamlets or the Dept of Transport.

Now let me get started on the privatisation of public space over the last 20 years...

So just because you dont get payed top money for something means you dont try an do a good job ...........

Ok then if thats how you want to see things fine , but what about the cleaners mail room workers cafeteria workers who will be safe ? iam a silly fellow me i thought all human life was something worth fighting for looking afther but it seems if you earn to much you are scum !!

anyway i dont wish to highjack your thread , have you tried for permission ?

Nope, not saying that I was saying that the people who walk past the security guard everyday won't even notice him or give his job a thought. Not until something goes wrong anyway!

The next time (if there is a next time) I'll probably apply for a permit - but the teenager in my doesn't want to.

I love my nikon and it loves me.

Canary Wharf is actually owned by Morgan Stanley. A huge chunk of London owned by america!

I was never quizzed by security there but, I was often quizzed by the police.

A huge chunk of your capital privately owned by an american corp!.

nice timing...am gonna go to london next weekend and canary wharf to be precise to take photos. part of my degree show init.

unfortunately this terrorism act term gets miused just like the word 'democracy'. umbrealla term for vague concepts
Riot Sky- Know exactly what you mean by the teenager bit. I aint applying for permission. If they dont want me taking photos close the fuckin roads off...

 rant over

but then again, before July 7 i was taking pictures of downing street with policeman in the shots and all. Have things really turned that bad?? Heard about one dude who was cited the terrorism act when he was on a motorway bridge taking photos.

reminds me of the other day. i was taking photos at the rycling plant. Fair enough, i didnt realsie it was owned by a private firm. I took a picture of this 50'' plasma widescreen that had been cracked and split and was stood upright on a trolley, plants and shed in the background... This guy clocked me from about a mile off and asked what i was doing, did i have permission, (didnt think i needed to cos i thought it was owned by the council..) and that i was rude etc and that he didnt want me taking pictures of him!!.

to cut a long story, there are ways of talking to people. And people on power trips usually lack these skills.
 rant over agian
:)

If it is for your degree, I'd just conform and get a permit - it really isn't worth the hassle for a form. It will also give you some satisfaction as you pull out your permit in front of the jobs worth with an air of 'fuck off' :D
