It's funny: on weekends, we drive up to Cypress or Seymour, the local ski hills, to have a hot chocolate and throw snowballs at each other. It's like a little treat.

Yay Bonhomme!

It hasn't snowed for 4-5 days here, which is nice, unfortunately the weather is far more like my native Cardiff. i.e. Pissing down with rain.

:(

Cardiff, huh? I went from London, England to Montreal then the Laurentians. My aunt is from Wales.

Ever wish you were back there? I am soooo glad that my parents moved us here. Each time I visit England, I thank my parents for emigrating.

Are you bilingual?

Sometimes, but mainly only for sentimental reasons such as missing my family, my friends and native familiality. If we consider raw quality of life and social temperament, Canada surpasses easily. I have lots more money in my pocket and I honestly haven't seen a fight in Québec City once.
Another bonus is the preferential treatment with the British accent, I can't say I don't enjoy it.

However, on the flip side, it kinda just feels more alive when you go out in the UK, probably down to the excessive behaviour.

England, I can understand, but i'm a Welshman ;)

Working on it. I'd be learning online using Rosetta Stone for about a year before I emigrated, I walked into a job using a combination of charm and nepotism :D and have been working in Québecois since.
The first two months were a nightmare but gradually everyone's voices started to slow down and I started to be able to pick words out of the garble. It's approaching a year and I can communicate now, pronunication is still annoying but improving.
I really should spend more time with my Bescherelle.

All in all, i'm glad I did it and i'll certainly be here until I get my citizenship. That way I can avoid those fucking ID cards and still travel if I go back to the UK.

Out of curiosity, how did a guy from Cardiff decide to move to Quebec, out of all of Canada?

My girlfriend/wife (long story) is Québecoise and can already speak perfect English. I wanted to learn French and am the more qualified of us two, so we decided that it'd probably be easier for me to find a job here than her in Blighty.

Ahhh - French Canadian family life - nothing finer.

I really miss living in Quebec sometimes :(

You should both just move to BC.

Yes, we aren't very nice to newbies. We aren't being mean, it just reminds us that we live in a very extreme climate. (and it's fun -we are easily amused :( )

I was in England the first time you had a big snow storm. You couldn't handle it, airport closed for three days, many accidents. I was really scared to the people around me. They didn't understand the danger of driving in snow.

It's not a critism, it's just that you aren't prepared to handle this stuff. We have special tyres, windshield wipers, oil, etc. We also have machines that can clear the roads and make it a bit safer. Vancouver, British Columbia has the same problem when they get snow - they don't/didn't have the equipment.

We hired a guy from China and he was totally unprepared for a Canadian winter. His rule of thumb was if the Canadians weren't travelling, he didn't either.

Peeps you're right half an inch of snow here is like the worlds coming to an end for some. Having spent a lot of time in the highlands snow usually means playtime :D
