Can you lovely ladies please point me towards some day frocks please?

across stripes do tend to make you look shorter because they draw the eye across. so if you wear a stripy top with plain bottoms, your top half looks chunkier in comparison to the elongation of the legs. however, imo, rather than making the wearer look fatter, instead it seems to add curves rather than bulk. vertical stripes seem to do the opposite.

The black dress arrived.

It looked hideous on... the material was far too clingy and made me look really fat. :(

Oh no moo moo, I'm sorry to hear that :(

I've seen pics of you on here and think you are gorgeous so don't be disheartened because the dress wasn't up to scratch.

It wasn't the dress that wasn't up to scratch brix, it's me.

Eating a packet of crisps to make up for the disappointment won't have helped either I suppose.

*Sigh*

I'm a great believer that clothes make one look horrible, not the other way around, else we'd look hideous in everything, and we don't.

If Dotty P invested in a bit of decent weight fabric we wouldn't have this problem - thin and too stretchy it looked bloody awful on me too, even in elephantine size. Shame 'cos it looked great on the hanger. Maybe we should look for stuff that looks lousy hanging up.......

*picks jeans up off the floor*

moo, why not try a skirt/top combo? somethink like this http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_17642_719869_-1

with a cami and cardi? still femine, still practical for day to day wear but you can get a top that doesnt feel too clingy for you, and fits well over the chest, and a skirt that fits well and isnt a clingy material? or even non-jean trousers? would give you a change from jeans, and gives more options that just dresses, as you can buy a few bits and mix/match

i'm a skinny runt, and even i thing dotty p's choice of fabric can be unflattering. i am also a great believer in light control underwear for smoothing lumps and bumps :D i have one very clingy top that just looks so much better with a light control vest underneath :)

Thanks feyr, that's not a bad idea. And I like that skirt. I think it's best if I try stuff on in the shop rather than buying online so I'll go and check out separates at the weekend. :hmm: :)

Hence my post about wraparound dresses in clingy fabric - serves you right for ignoring me :p

Did you not read the bit where I said it looked crap?
Yes, but you're wrong because it's not a wraparound :)

Any dresses made of that clingy fabric have to be worn over major 'scafolding' IMO

Unless one is very skinny or made of that stiff that shop dummies are made of and even they look a bit lumpy in them :hmm:

I'm guessing I'll have pissed off quite a few women with that statement. Probably around 20 of them :)
