I once tried to stop a very old mountain bike (30+lbs with hoseshoe brakes) coming down Blackstock Road. It didn't; in fact I swear it sped up. When I was about 22 I once clocked 48 miles an hour coming down Seven Sisters road. I rarely even dare pedal going down hill these days. Especially in the rain.
